Had only the best experience with the hop on hop off bus company. The buses are modern and clean. A few times guests came back with a complaint, but the team always handled it professionally.

Sightseeing in Muscat

Tour gives a good overview! Stops at the most important sights! 24h tour is expensive, the 48h tour is o.k. Very friendly staff and good drivers! Only every 2h a bus! Thats very bad! The busses should run every 30 min! Free water on bord! Good information in different languages! Thank you!

Friendly Staff and A Wonderful Experience

I enjoyed my stay in Muscat and my tour of the city by the Big Bus Tours. Muscat scenery is indeed beautiful. The staff are friendly and accommodating. I will definitely go back to Oman, preferably during winter, to enjoy more of this place...

Not a hop on hop off

The staff were lovely (although hard to find initially), and the route is ok. However this is not a hop on, hop off, as the buses only run every 2 hours, so there is no opportunity to see more than a couple of the 10 sites. We were really disappointed as we'd hoped to be able to explore the city rather than just sit on the bus. Also only 3 of the headphone ports were working on the outside seats. In sum, the first bus tour I've taken where I've regretted spending so much money.

Dear Karen,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback; which we take very seriously at the Big Bus Tours.

We are very sorry and regret to hear that you did not enjoy the Muscat sightseeing tour.

The bus had a technical issue with the audio system on the day of your tour unfortunately, which we have managed to fix. We do apologize sincerely for the technical fault that has occurred.

Kindly email us on infomuscat@bigbustours.com in order to provide better service in the future.

Review

Big Bus is a great way to see the attractions and main sights of Muscat, however the infrequent departures (1.5-3 hours between buses at stops) and expense (more than $60USD per person) makes this a really tough decision. We ended up taking it since we would never be in Muscat again, but got stranded in the souk area that was closed while we waited 3 hours for the next bus. At least they offer free cold water on the buses.

A very disappointing experience

If you want to get a quick overview of Muscat in a very short time, the Big Bus tour may be the way to go, as you drive through part of the city, see some beautiful sights while having constant access to cool water and interesting information provided via headphones. The staff is pleasent and very service minded.

If you, on the other hand, wish to explore the sights of Muscat more profoundly, the Big Bus tour is definitely NOT the way to go. The tour consists of 10 stops across the city, but most of the sights are either explored within a few minuts or prohibited/closed for visiting, meaning that the mandatory stay of 2 hours at each stop is way too long for must stops. In addition to this, the bus may not only arrive late at each stop, but also early, depending on the traffic. Since our bus arrived early at each stop, we had to be at all stops at least 20 minutes prior to departure in order to be sure to catch the bus. Luckily for us, no stop was so interesting that it prevented us from getting back to the stop in time due.

According to the locals in Oman, the Grand Mosque is one of the major sights of Muscat, and one can wonder why this sight is not even included in the programme of the Big Bus tour. We knew that in advance, but this was before we saw the sights offered by Big Bus tour with our own eyes. Oman is a lovely country definitely worth visiting, but if you have a wish to explore the city of Muscat, we suggest you hire a local taxi driver as guide instead of taking the Big Bus.

Dear Pia,

Thank you for taking the time to post your valuable review. We do take all customer complaints very seriously at the Big Bus Tours.

We regret to hear that you did not enjoy the landmark visits and sorry to learn that some of the landmarks were closed on the day of your visit. Timings on weekends vary from the remaining days of the week.

With regards to the Muscat landmarks, they do have specific visit timings, which our staff are very well familiar with and normally communicate it to the guests. Sudden time changes go back to the Omani Government & Ministry at times, which is something we have no control over.

We look forward to welcome you again on board the Big Bus Muscat and Big Bus Tours in the near future.

Best Wishes

awesome trip. great service!

I made a day trip to Muscat from Dubai. The bus was very convenient if you consider that it was over 40C...HOT. Upon arrival we were greated with water and since we were leaving to Dubai on the same day, Aimee did our tour schedule of when and what to do and where to stop so thank you for that. Muscat is really nice and I recommend anyone.

Big Bus

The quickest way to get an over view of Muscat.

I took the tour on my first of four days in town. I appreciated the commentary as it gave a great - if lazy- way of understanding the town and it's history.

The staff were polite and efficient.

I'd recommend it. It was excellent. And air conditioned... which, in July was greatly appreciated.

muscat 23rd May

Took the 0900 bus from the Souk after arriving early from Bahrain as a day trip. It was a very hot 41C and so I really appreciated the staff allowing me to sit on the air con bus from when it arrived early at approx 0830

Staff incredibly helpful and friendly with excellent English. Freedom to jump on and off as many times as you want and the bus throughout the day ran to time.

Complimentary chilled bottles of water constantly available was a nice touch

Great way to introduce yourself to the highlights of beautiful Muscat

short trip

Their service is good. Their routes are short and limited. Thus, it's really only good for a few hours as after 2 hours a person has seen everything.

Big Bus in Muscat, Oman

I arrived in Oman a few weeks ago to find the services of Big Bus in Muscat, Oman of all places. I had just used Big Bug in Dubai and had a great experience. I quickly signed up online and was very pleased with the services offered in their newest city. One young man in particular made my experience stand out was one of their hospitality employees that checked you in by the name of Edwin. Edwin was not only good at what he did but he was exceptional. His customer services skills were second to none with a number of helpful hints on what to see/do while in Oman. Thanks for the outstanding experience Big Bus. I will be back

Big bus tour Muscat

A good affordable way to see Muscat.
Tour information needs to advise you the days of opening for the churches stop. We got off to find they were not open. Enjoyable and informative

great way to see highlights of muscat

Great way to see the highlights of Muscat. We opted for the two day ticket as that offered better value and more chance to see the sights. The buses ran frequently, often more than every 30 minutes and the start and end time allowed a full days activity. The only negative comment I would say is that on the busier day, a week day the buses ran out of drinking water before midday and it was a really hot day.

I would recommend the bus tour to anyone wanting to see the highlights of muscat.

No Big Bus for us anymore

Took long time for the bus to arrive, and then it was filled up to the last spot. Driver was driving annoyingly: too fast, not smooth, not cinsidering having a bunch of tourists on board. Waiting time between busses and the return bus to our cruiseboat took forever. Not worth the high rates! Better take a taxi tour next time.

First time in Muscat

As a first time visitor to Muscat with no wish to drive on our short visit, the Big Bus was an obvious choice. We were not disappointed. At the chosen pickup point there was a helpful attendant and, although we only got off at Mutrah Souk, the same applied there. In two hours you see many of Muscat's attaractions with a good commentary on the sights and the country.
Thoroughly recommended,
The only negative was that, while the service is advertised at each stop as every 30 minutes, it was actually 40 minutes on the day we went. Not a big issue though.
