Outstanding Support Throughout My Sale

I would like to leave a very complimentary review for Quasim at Barnard Marcus.

Throughout my sale process, Quasim was absolutely excellent. Moving house can be incredibly stressful, but he was professional, responsive, supportive and reassuring from start to finish.

He always kept me updated, answered my questions promptly and went above and beyond to help things progress smoothly. His communication and customer service were outstanding, and I genuinely felt supported throughout the whole process.

Thank you again, Quasim, for all your help and hard work. You are a real credit to the Peckham branch.

No professionalism

Really disappointing experience with Barnard Marcus in Putney.

I arranged a property viewing for today and organised part of my Saturday around it, as I’m actively looking to rent. I arrived 15 minutes early, had a look around the area, and waited at the property as agreed. By 12:15, with nobody turning up and no communication, I had to chase them myself to find out what was happening.

After four attempts to get through on the phone, I was finally told that the viewing was no longer going ahead and that they had “tried to contact me” to let me know. I have since checked everything thoroughly — calls, emails, texts, WhatsApp, spam and junk folders — and there was absolutely nothing from them.

It’s incredibly frustrating to waste someone’s time like that, especially when they’ve made plans around your appointment. If a viewing is cancelled, the bare minimum should be letting the customer know. A real lack of professionalism and consideration.

Unprofessional conduct and disregard

Erected a 'for sale' sign on a private residential building in a spot clearly marked 'so estate agent signs' within private property boundary. Repeatedly asked by management company to take down the sign and lied they would. Complete disregard and respect for residential rules for business gains and brand advertising.

Barnard Marcus is an awful company

Barnard Marcus is an awful company, treating customers as they please. They may start ignoring you, not responding to calls and emails, never fulfil their promises and delay the return of your deposit.
Lack of their internal communication between Sutton and Leighton Buzzard branches are laughable. One branch tells you one thing, another branch something else. They can't even make an effort by talking to each other. Avoid at all cost.

Barnard Marcus Tried to Bully Me Out of My Tenancy!

If you are thinking of renting through Barnard Marcus, read this review very carefully. Everything in this review is 100% factual. Nothing is exaggerated or made up. I still have all of the written communication, emails and messages to support everything I am saying.

I work in education and have done for over 10 years. I am also self-employed, I run my own business, and I have employees. I am not someone who can be confused, downplayed or bullied into accepting nonsense. Before moving into the apartment, I was told that because I was self-employed I would need to pay six months’ rent upfront, and after those six months I would move onto monthly payments. When the first agreement came through, it was wrong. It effectively required me to pay six months upfront twice, which was not what had been discussed. I pointed this out and was told to sign it anyway because an addendum would be issued afterwards to correct it.

When the first addendum eventually arrived, it came late and then tried to limit the tenancy to six months, which I refused to accept because that was not the agreement. I then had to escalate matters through the complaints department and go back and forth with the area manager just to get a second addendum issued. That second addendum was signed months after I had moved in, and I signed it without being told that the landlord was apparently planning to either sell the property, move back in, or otherwise get me out. Had I known that, I would never have signed it. After six months, I was then served with a Section 21 notice, and they tried to rely on the break clause in the original tenancy agreement to get me out, even though I had signed for a one-year tenancy and had every intention of staying. It became very clear to me that the plan was always to get me out after six months.

What followed was months of stress, back and forth, gaslighting, deflection and excuse-making. I went back and forth with the area manager for months. He repeatedly tried to school me on what the law was, tried to insinuate that I did not know what I was talking about, and tried to throw every possible legal loophole at me to justify getting me out of the apartment. But in the end, I won. I fought for myself, relied on the written record, and forced them to rescind the Section 21 because they knew they could not bully me the way they had clearly expected to. What also helped was the fact that the second addendum did not have an end tenancy date, which completely undermined the position they were trying to take.

Throughout all of this, Barnard Marcus never advocated on my behalf once. Not once. They were a completely useless third party. Whenever there were problems in the apartment, whenever there were repairs that needed doing, whenever there were issues that needed to be resolved, I had to advocate for myself the entire time. They did not protect me, they did not support me, and they did not act professionally. All they did was gaslight, deflect, make excuses, and avoid accountability.

It has now been several months since I moved out of the property, but I am posting this review now to hold this company accountable for how they treated me. I eventually moved out a couple of weeks before the one-year term ended, but the amount of stress, time and energy that this company caused was unbelievable. I have been renting for over a decade and I have never dealt with anything like this in my life.

My advice is very simple: DO NOT RENT THROUGH A THIRD-PARTY COMPANY. If you are in a position where you need to rent, go directly to a private landlord. Do not go through an agency, especially an agency like Barnard Marcus.

This review is public for a reason. This company should be held accountable for the way it treats tenants. And if Barnard Marcus wants to dispute any part of what I have written, they are welcome to do so — because I still have all of the written evidence.

We recently sold our shared ownership…

We recently sold our shared ownership flat through Barnard Marcus Battersea. We had already been on the market for over a year, and none of the other Estate Agents we had tried would sell the Share rather than 100%, nor had they been successful. Micheal gave us great advice and confidence that they would be able to do so; and Micheal, Alan, Milo and Andrea were all brilliant, and I would have no hesitation in recommending them. They were communicative and approachable at every step of the way and did all they could to not only secure a buyer but also to make sure that the sale went as smoothly and quickly as possible.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Paid company full management fees - failed to ask tenant to sign new contract, failed to notify us as Landlord. Tenant left early - huge amount of property damage. Barnard Marcus got all the quotes for remedial works and then failed to present to Ombudsman. Consequently we lost deposit and had to bear loss of rental income and all damage. Totally awful unprofessional deceitful company - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Disappointing Service and Lack of Accountability - Avoid at all cost

(2-April-2026 update)

I am very disappointed with the way Barnard Marcus has handled my deposit return. Despite repeatedly following up, they continue to respond with vague messages like “I am still currently liaising with your former landlord in regards to what they may potentially be looking to claim for to deduct from your deposit.” This has been going on for far too long, and it feels completely unprofessional.

The checkout inventory report clearly stated there were no damages and I have hired professional end of tenancy cleaning, so there is no reason for the landlord to spend days “looking for” deductions. The agency should be enforcing a clear deadline for the landlord, not helping them delay payment. I expected transparent and timely communication, but instead, I have experienced avoidable delays and poor accountability. Very disappointing service.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To future tenants, I wish you good luck and all the best coz you really needed it.

People here just don't give a sh*t and don't care about delivering what they have promised.

1. I was only given the tenancy agreement 3 days before the tenancy start date, as I have mentioned multiple times that I need time to read the agreement and make payment and plan ahead for my moving, they only serve the landlord as the landlord is given a template and rights to modify any leasing terms 2 weeks ago, but I only got 3 days. And they insist that I need to start paying bills on the tenancy start day and not willing to postpone it even it is their fault to not send me the agreement earlier. Without any confirmation how am I suppose to make plans in moving?

2. They will not share the landlord's contact and saying I can contact them whenever I need help. However, whenever I needed them to ask landlord for confirmation, eg if it is ok to replace the traditional meter with smart meter, they will never help you and no reply. I tried to call and email, no response. Also I tried to ask them to confirm with landlord if water bill is also included, as the rent only stated hot water included. I tried to call Thames Water and got the reply is I cannot set up an account with them as the whole building was under 1 business account. I addressed this issue to Barnard Marcus Covent Garden and would would like to seek for a confirmation that I do not need to pay for water. What I got was, if you contacted Thames Water then I should take their advice. Come on! I need confirmation from you! not from Thames Water!

There are many more little things that shows how irresponsible they are to Tenants, I hope this review can help anyone who is considering to rent from them.

**When it comes to fixture maintenance, Hollie from the property maintenance team however did a great job, she replied my emails and follow up on the issues. I really appreciated her prompt response.

PS. I will keep updating my frustrated experiences that I encounter with them.

Thank you the Barnard Marcus Tottenham team!

I would like to thank the team at Barnard Marcus Tottenham for all their help in selling my home. From meeting Cameron at the initial viewing I was always treated with the utmost professionalism and always felt he had my interests at heart. He was always there with good advice and encouragement in what is a daunting process. A big thank you too to Ogo, who was always so positive, patient and friendly when we spoke and to Andreas for showing my flat to prospective sellers with such good humour. They were all on the case, keeping me informed and getting back to me promptly when I needed to be in touch.
A very professional, friendly team I can recommend highly.

Flexible but mixed review

Our experience with Barnard Marcus was mixed. Going to the viewings and liaising with the estate agents was fantastic, particularly the Redhill branch, Peter and Gareth. They were super helpful and flexible in supporting us with our first time purchase.

However, once we confirmed our offer and got further through the process, we were handed to a senior sales progressor from the New Malden branch who was rude and condescending, trying to pressurise us as first time buyers to expedite her sale. She called us extremely nervous and naive, informing us that we should ignore the results of our home buyers survey as we are holding up exchange, although we only had one simple request to check the boiler.

Overall, we would have given 5 stars if we didn’t have these conversations with this individual. We had a good experience and now have the keys to our home.

Wonderful experience with Alan

I had a fantastic experience working with Alan throughout the purchase of my flat. After almost a full year of searching for a property, dealing with many different agencies and unfortunately going through several unsuccessful situations, it was such a relief to finally work with someone as supportive and collaborative as Alan.

From the very beginning he was incredibly professional, responsive and genuinely helpful. Buying a property can be a stressful and complex process, but Alan was always available to guide me, provide updates and help move things forward whenever needed. His communication and dedication really made a difference.

Throughout the entire process I truly felt supported and in safe hands, which is something I hadn’t experienced with other agents during my search.

I’m very grateful for all the help and support he provided and would highly recommend Alan to anyone looking to buy a property. If in the future I ever decide to sell my property, buy again, or need the help of an estate agent for any reason, Alan will definitely be the first person I contact.

Thank you again for everything!

Great service at Ealing Branch

Everyone in the Ealing branch was extremely helpful and friendly especially Noah, who showed us many different properties and worked hard to find the properties that were of most interest to us. Even though we didn't go ahead with one of their properties I would recommend him to anyone and want to thank him for his hard work and kindness. 5/5 Service

Very disappointing letting Agent | Barnard Marcus Wallington

I’ve had a very disappointing experience with Barnard Marcus in Wallington. When I moved into my apartment, I was given only one set of keys. I requested the second set multiple times, but they now claim they already provided two, which is not true.

Whenever I report maintenance issues—both by email and through their portal—it takes them at least a week just to reply and without noticing their portal they will ask me to raise the issue again in their portal, and usually about a month before anything actually gets resolved.

On several occasions, I ended up paying to fix issues myself because I couldn’t wait any longer.

Overall, the service has been slow, unprofessional, and frustrating. I wouldn’t recommend them based on my experience.

Tenacious and thorough. Batting hard for clients

We had a pretty torrid time trying to sell our property when the tenants refuse to leave and damaged the house. Bernard Marcus stayed on the case and remained incredibly patient with the sales process and even after a price was agreed Kelly within that office in Ealing tenaciously contacted all constituent parties almost on the daily basis to speed up an otherwise excessively long process. They absolutely earned their fee and I was delighted to have them in our corner during a drawn out sales process which was no fault of ours or Barnard Marcus.
