Extremely Frustrating Experience – Wallington Branch
Our experience with this estate agency was incredibly disappointing. From the outset, there was a lack of communication, no transparency, and zero initiative taken to support us during the home-selling process. We had to follow up constantly, as our messages and calls often went unanswered.
After we accepted an offer, we expected some guidance and proactive management—but there was none. The agent made no effort to progress the sale or engage meaningfully with the buyer and the buyer’s solicitor, leaving us to manage the situation ourselves with little information on what was going on.
After seven months of delays and zero responsiveness or accountability on key issues by the agency, the sale ultimately collapsed. Shockingly, even then, the agent offered no explanation, apology, or acknowledgment of their role in the negative outcome.
We’ve never experienced such unprofessionalism and would strongly advise others to avoid this agency if you’re looking for a trustworthy and responsive service.
RENT A FLAT
I'm not one for leaving reviews but I thought I had to document my experience, my daughter has a flat which she rents out through BM but I have a lasting power of attorney so all the decisions must go through me however this did not happen. I feel BM has taken advantage of my daughter without my knowledge or say so.
They've rented the flat for two years and taken all of their fee upfront and now despite numerous attempts to contact the branch (all logged), we have had no phone call back, only emails which have not been very helpful.
BM has signed us up to a management service which I did not authorise and effectively are screwing us for every penny without providing a service. As the contracts were signed without my knowledge they're actually null and void as I am the sole decision maker.
I will be taking legal action as they've taken advantage of a vulnerable person and are trying to hold me to an unlawful contract.
I wish to speak to the area manager immediately as my dealings with Nicola & Elina have been unsatisfactory.
Avoid Barnard Marcus at all costs
Avoid Barnard Marcus at all costs: unprofessional, dishonest, and completely unreliable
My experience with Barnard Marcus has been nothing short of appalling. I booked a viewing to buy a property, only for them to cancel on me at a day before the appointment without a clear reason. That alone was frustrating, but what followed was even worse. Every time I tried to negotiate on the price, I was met with the same line: “We’ll speak to the landlord and call you tomorrow.” That call never came. Not once did they follow through. It became clear they were just playing games , wasting my time with empty promises and zero professionalism.
Barnard Marcus operates with a blatant disregard for transparency and client care. Their agents either can’t keep track of basic information or simply don’t care. They also tried to lie to everyone about the information from the landlord just to pressure people into using their services.
I wouldn’t trust them to lock a door properly, let alone handle one of the most important financial transactions of your life.
If you're considering working with Barnard Marcus: Don’t. Save yourself the stress and deal with an estate agent that values integrity, competence, and basic respect. Barnard Marcus has none of those.
Barnard Marcus, Streatham branch
Our house hunt was incredibly smooth thanks to Hosanna Daniel at the Streatham branch. She quickly understood our needs, showing us suitable houses that perfectly matched our preferences.
Hosanna was exceptionally patient throughout the viewing day, never rushing us and making every viewing a positive experience. She was also incredibly informative, providing valuable insights and answering all our questions thoroughly.
Hosanna Daniel is a truly dedicated and professional agent. If you're looking for someone knowledgeable and patient to guide your property search, I wholeheartedly recommend her. She's a true asset to the Streatham branch!
Trying to rent a house
Hi, I am trying to a book a viewing for some houses with Streatham bunch but they aways say that they'll call me back and nothing, when I call them they said that haven't forgot about me and nothing happenns, that's the second house which I have tried.
Do Not Trust This Agency
This review is specifically about Daniel Sieh at the Earls Court/West Brompton branch. I toured the flat in January and asked him directly if there had ever been any mold issues. He looked me in the eye and said, word for word: "No, nothing like that. We have managed this property for years and have had no reported issues or awareness of mold. We would know about any problems as we manage it."
That was completely false. We've since learned from previous tenants that there were serious mold issues, particularly around the living room windows and bathrooms. They had to treat and repaint with mold-resistant paint twice. So he lied to my face.
This was just one of many problems we've had with this agency. The entire experience has been disorganized, poorly managed, and dishonest. Their letting agents seem only interested in making a sale, regardless of the truth. Do not rent through them. It has been a nightmare.
An appointment was booked on telephone
An appointment was booked on telephone, wrote details down including name of person. Got an email, different person different day and time for an appiuntment, Accepted new date and time. Person showed up and quote I got for a 25% share in my home owmership was £5,000. Next, mortgage advisor, date and time booked, I explained that I wanted the appointment remotely, then someone rang to confirm appointment but apparently I had to go to their nearest office physically. I explained that I had agreed to a remote appointment, then I was told that this peson wasn't advised of this and that they were so busy it would be virtually impossible to book another appointment any time soon. My view a lot of inexperienced young people playing games with people's lives and their money. I found absolutely no empathy in their dealings. If they can't get initial appointments correct what hope have you got for them to deal with a substantial amount of money?
Again
Again, Thornton Heath branch are lazy, obnoxious, unknowledgeable, can't even be bothered to obtain information on the flats/properties they are selling but are very fast and aggressive to secure an instruction-after that they will work for the buyer in getting the worst price then force the seller into taking it.
Problem is the industry is unregulated, open to any clueless school leaver who's mother still mollycoddles him.
They can't even be bothered to follow up on queries or do their job in a professional way, they would cut you off on the phone because you called them out, give you any old lie, half the properties advertised are not fit for human habitation, have leases so low you'd have to pay triple the asking price to get them extended, all with a polyester suit and overly aggressive sales tac
Horrendous Experience!
Horrendous experience of dealing with Barnard Marcus Lettings in Morden. Poor communications; did not return calls or answer emails. Poor systems. Inept and incompetent staff in many positions. Did not process rent review properly. Incorrectly processed fees to themselves. 4 months after being fired they still have not repaid all amounts owed. Escalation procedures ineffective. Would never use again.
Very professional
I had the pleasure of working with Max Harffey from Barnard Marcus Earl Court branch during the purchase of my property in Earls Court, and I couldn't be more satisfied with his service. He was highly professional, efficient, and always responsive to any questions or concerns I had throughout the process. His expertise and dedication made the transaction smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend Max to anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable estate agent.
Unprofessional and untrustworthy…
Unprofessional and untrustworthy timewasters.
We tried to sell our property via Barnard Marcus, they made multiple mistakes with the property particulars, told lies (I know what estate agent doesn’t but some of these were just baffling), discriminated against a female first time buyer who had made us an offer by telling us not to go with her because she might get pregnant and the sale would fall through. They can’t use their own systems, at one point sending an offer from ourselves on our own property and a congratulations letter saying the offer had been passed over to the sellers (us).
They also argued with me when I asked to make sure the door was properly locked. No respect for the safety of your property.
They have no duty of care to their clients and just want a quick sale and will harass you to accept a lower offer and refuse to pass on rejections or counteroffers to potential buyers. They waste time with pointless phone calls and talk nonsense without actually fulfilling the basics an estate agent should under the TPO guidelines.
We did repeatedly raise these issues with them and nothing improved or changed sadly.
Rude and unprofessional Property…
Rude and unprofessional Property management surbiton branch. Keep disturbing the tenants for the property issue. But for case that the tenant need urgent for help ( like no water flushing and they just delay to response). Will file official complaint and avoid renting the property managed by Bernard Marcus. Extremely disappointing
Experience.
Really great experience buying our home…
Really great experience buying our home with Dorking brancj: Bernice Tully was fantastic - found us a mortgage which was truly life changing and made the impossible, possible. Emma Cronk was also super efficient, helpful and managed everything so well that it really took the stress out of it. Hugest thanks from us
HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE
Warning for anyone stepping into Barnard Marcus Worcester Park.
Everything this company seems to do is for their own benefit and not the customer. Their monthly rental statement is virtually impossible to understand and when I was overcharged nearly £1000 even their own accounts department could not work it out and advised me to go into my local branch to sort it out! Further to this they 'Lost' my entire inventory even though I had paid for it and told me it was the fault of a previous employee who was 'A bit dodgy'.
Further inventory carried out completely missed off burn marks in the carpet and a large hole in the bathroom door.
When I asked for a copy of my Letting agreement I was sent one belonging to someone else which included all of their bank details!
After a catalogue of errors told them I wanted to give them notice and part company with Barnard Marcus even with the full three month notice given they threatened to charge me £1950 +VAT for coming out of the contract and moving to another estate agent!
At every step of the way this company has failed badly and made the whole experience of letting a property an absolute nightmare. Avoid them at all costs!
Without Jake from BM pushing my sale…
Without Jake from BM pushing my sale through, I don't think it would ever have completed. It was a difficult sale due to all the new regulations around apartments, but Jake was both responsive and pro-active. Can't thank him enough! I also got a good price as sole agent so I'm very happy!
I signed exclusively with Barnard…
I signed exclusively with Barnard Marcus as they were the only one of four agencies invited to value my property, who were not pushy in pressuring me to take the next steps. I was never rushed or hurried - always given as much time as I needed to consider my choices. My decisions were accepted graciously, whether or not I took their advice. I felt respected and heard throughout. Deserving of a special mention is Jake Tharp of the Covent Garden branch, for his endless patience, warmth and diplomacy.
COVENT GARDEN BRANCH
COVENT GARDEN BRANCH - Jake was exceptional throughout the selling process which wasn't an easy one at all. He was always proactive, professional and a pleasure to deal with. Francesca stepped with equal professionalism on the occasions that Jake was not in the office. Thank you guys. S&B
Covent Garden Branch did a great job…
Covent Garden Branch did a great job with a tricky sale. Recommended.
What a bunch of cowboys. Utterly useless.
What a bunch of cowboys. Listed with Barnard Marcus, Epsom, who brought round the Chinese 'buyers', and then stopped marketing it. The Chinese 'buyers' made no offer and were complete timewasters. I agreed to use IAMSOLD to auction it, and they did no marketing either, and when I gave them notice, they pressured me to sell at auction, with only one bidder! That would be a sale not an auction - doh! I gave notice to Barnard Marcus, and not only do they not have the decency to take our property off the market, they refuse to even discuss it.
There are no complaints procedures, as with all sequence home companies, so all of the group have dreadful feedback.
My opinion is that they are amoral, utterly disreputable cowboys, with no intention of selling any properties, and the sooner they go bust, the better.
I will never use Barnard Marcus…
I will never use Barnard Marcus Chiswick again. Standard of service is appalling.
The tenants wrecked my property, inspection was carried out in February last year. And was deemed as liveable condition, fair wear and tear
I not sure who they use but the property was in terrible condition when I eventually got the keys back.
The standard of contractors used to do any repairs are shoddy and charge extortion amounts.
I made sure the branch had a spare set of keys but when the tenants wouldn’t allow access. They couldn’t find the branch keys. When I asked about them I was told funny things happened during COVID.
When the tenants abandoned the property as their eviction was taking too long. I went to collect the keys, no one from the Lettings Team came up to see me just handed the keys to one of the Sales team and said the were in a meeting. No one checked I was the Landlord for the property. I checked the keys and set were missing, I asked to speak to the Lettings team. The manager eventually came up, he had never met me as he had only been there a while. I insisted he checked for the keys and lo and behold they had been tagged incorrectly. So I had been made to feel that I was lying the whole time I had been asking about the keys.
