Norwich branch- overall the staff have been great especially Ethan, however they have a lot of ‘hidden’ fees and also charge ridiculously high for simple things such as an increase in rent they charged me £300 other companies I have used do not do this, I don’t rate the company at all, there’s a lot of other options available I would suggest shopping around

Great mortgage broker in Harwich

I arranged my mortgage via Connor at William H Brown in Harwich. I'm a first time buyer and he has been an amazing help. Connor is helpful, professional, friendly and reassuring. I really cannot rate him highly enough.

I rented a property in October 2024…

I rented a property in October 2024 through William H. Brown based on a recommendation that they personally knew the landlord, Raymond, and described him as a very responsible and good landlord. Relying on that recommendation, I decided to rent the property at 126 New Cheveley Road, Newmarket.

After moving in, I quickly became disappointed with the standard of work in the property, which appeared to be largely superficial and of poor quality. This concern was later supported by one of Raymond’s own contractors, a plumber, who visited on three occasions due to an ongoing problem with the sink. He confirmed that Raymond had instructed them to use cheap and insufficient parts and to complete the work in an unrealistic timeframe, resulting in corners being cut.

Despite these issues, I continued to give Raymond the benefit of the doubt and communicated with him informally as he requested. However, in January 2026, I felt it necessary to raise concerns in writing about the floor, which had been moving for some time. Raymond attended the property to inspect the issue, and I also raised concerns about suspected damp or mould behind the fridge.

Following the inspection, Raymond emailed me, blaming the damp and mould on insufficient heating and attributing the floor movement to my usage. I subsequently arranged for an independent expert to inspect the property. The expert confirmed that the floor had not been fitted correctly and that any damage was due to improper installation. I forwarded this report to Raymond, highlighting that the issues were not caused by me. In response, I received an email terminating my tenancy and giving me one month’s notice. I believe this to be a retaliatory and unjust termination of the tenancy following my raising legitimate concerns.

The property is owned and managed by Nala Property Ltd, whose address is 28 Glebe Drive, Exning, Newmarket, CB8 7FQ. I will provide copies of the email correspondence and independent expert report for review on request so anyone considering relying on recommendations from William H. Brown or renting from Nala Property can see an accurate account of my experience.

Totally unprofessional company

We rented a property in Newmarket(Suffolk)for three years.
A year ago the property was put up for sale without anyone telling us,we only knew when a coworker saw it online.
We had dogs so liked viewings when they weren’t there, not much notice of viewings to sort getting dogs out of the way.
The only way we knew it was sold was when the sign went up outside.
They said we had unpaid bills and didn’t clean it,when we have evidence we paid bills and cleaned it,but couldn’t clean behind the furniture in the property, the furniture left in property was the
landlord’s,but billing us for hiring a skip to get rid of their own belongings!!

JOKE AND UNPROFESSIONAL

Rented a House this company they have smaller agents scattered aeound and their comapny Holroyds based in Halifax was looking after the rental. I gave my notice to the company to leave the property this was done by email ans had to chase it twice to ensure that they got the notice. I had then been given a date for them to complete the final inspection and I booked half day off work, on the day they never showed I rang the estate agent and they said "oh it was resceduled the afternoon" as I could not stay I then was instructed to go to Colne to drop the keys. William H Brown use a company called VIBRANT to carry out their insoections etc. Fast forward to the next day I then logged into my DPS account and put a request in cor my deposit. I chased this for 14 days with Holrods Keighly and they kept coming back with excuses why they have not authorised my deposit to be released. I then has to officially put a claim against the compant with the DPS which cost me a further £15 to have the forms counter signed by a solicitor. Only when I sent these back to officially start a claim is when my deposit was released. WHAT A JOKE OF A COMPANY very unprofessional and wil leave you chasing. If you decide to use this company then just make sure your ready to do all the leg work and make sure you take plenty of pictures before you move out. I am so glad that this year they have introduced the renters rights it will make companies like this be more professional. Good Luck

How I lost £3000

How I lost £3000

In May 2025 I was looking to buy a house as a first time buyer . After 10-15 views , I found a house in Rotherham , Sheffield advertised by William H Brown . I liked the 2 bed house advertised for £110.000 . I put an offer of £109.000 , which was accepted by sellers . I intructed the solicitors and surveyors to start the work . The solicitors asked £2300 , with £500 deposit and surveyors asked £780 for a survey level 3 , because the house was 130 years old . After 2 and half months , searches came back , from solicitors that the house was built on top of a mine . Agency workers started to call me weekly . At that stage I told them , that things have changed because I just found out that the house is built on top of a mine and I don t know what it involves . The agency employee told me : “ we know the house is build on a mine , but we just don t tell to everyone about this “ . I replyed the employee : “ I m not just everyone , I m the buyer of the house ! “ . In the meanwhile the survey report came , whice resulted that the house was in very bad condition , beside the fact that was built on top of a mine . Just to bring the house to a standard and safe living , about £20 000 needed for work . You have the survey , because I sent it to W.H .B . Employee. I managed to get £9000 discount , because of the condition of the house . The sellers agreed to drop the price to £ 100.000. After that , my solicitors asked for more searches and told me that the sellers solicitors are not that responssive as before the house price adjustment . After that I use to receive every week mails and calls from the agency employee putting pressure on us , if we have any news and also telling me that they are ready for an exchange date . I have an email from the agency worker , in October 2025 , in which she was stating : “ the sellers are ready for an exchange date “ . My solicitors finished all the searches and asked if 31 October 2025 is suitable for sellers for complete . Than the silent came . After a week , I received a call from agency employee stating : “ the sellers can not do completion , because they don t have where to move “ , after she stated in email that the seller is ready for exchange . I found out that the seller went to W. H.B and told them that they didn t found a house , what should they do . So while the agency employee was calling me and email me weekly to look for updates , she wasn t doing the same thing with the sellers . I was told by the agency employee , “ we were not aware that the sellers are looking for a house “ . That s the first question you re asking a seller : “ are you buying a new house , where you re gonna move after you sale this house ? “ .
So in November I found out that I m stack in the chain. My solicitor was asking me to pay for the rest of the money , even if I didn t got the house . My solicitor said I will pay only £1650 , instead of £2300 agreed because I didn t got the house . They gave me a discount . So I didn t want to lose £3000 , so I decided to wait for the sellers to find a house . It s been 8 months , and I didn t had any updates since November . In February I had a call from WHB, so I thought they have updates about the house . I got surprised , when an employee told me they called me to tell me they have another house on the same street at £60.000 . I told the employee : “ are you gonna pay my £3000 back ? If I start to look for another house I will lose £3000 , money which I already payed for this house . I m waiting for 8 months to finish this process . I m stuck in chain. After I realised how easy is for WHB employess to clap their hands , and just keep moving . Go to the next house . Let s start looking for another house . Today , 18 February 2026 I payed my solicitor the rest of the money , so they can close the case , because they keep chaising me with the final invoice since November 2025 . So this is how I lost £3000 : £600 for mortgage advisor , £780 for survey level 3 and £1650 for solicitors .

If I could give less than one star for…

If I could give less than one star for the penistone branch, I would. We rearranged to view a property. The lady we spoke to in the office was most unhelpful very annoyed because we gave her a few dates for our visit and it was almost as if we were putting her out because she had to contact the vendor to arrange it! when we finally arranged the visit the vendor never turned up so we were stood waiting for an hour. We’ve never once been contacted by the estate agency since to find out how the visit went , so presumably they’re not interested in whether the vendor wants to sell their house or not .Maybe the staff for the Penistone branch could do with a little bit more customer service training, we would never use this estate agent again.

Impeccable Service!

We recently had the pleasure of using William H Brown also known as Sequence as our estate agent during our house purchase, and I cannot speak highly enough of their outstanding service. From the very beginning, Libby our Mortgage Advisor was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and attentive to our needs.

She took the time to understand exactly what I was looking for and provided me with tailored options that fit my criteria perfectly. Throughout the entire process.
Megan our sales manager or so was always available to answer our questions, provide guidance, and offer invaluable insights. Her communication skills were exceptional; she kept us informed at every step, ensuring we never felt lost or overwhelmed.

What truly set Megan apart was her dedication and passion for her work. She went above and beyond to ensure a smooth and efficient transaction, demonstrating her commitment to her clients. I was particularly impressed by her negotiation skills, which played a crucial role in securing a great deal for our new home.

Thanks to Megan's hard work and expertise, we are now the proud owner of our dream house. I wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone looking to buy or sell a property. Thank you, Megan, for making this experience not only successful but also enjoyable!

Ollie and Tom - Great guys!

Ollie and Tom have been brilliant throughout the process of finding a rental for the needs we were looking for.

Brilliant service we have been given throughout. No question is too much for them, communication has been amazing with me throughout the whole journey.

When renting it can be difficult to find a good agent, especially when they are managing a property but these guys have been incredible. I’m actually excited to have them as our managing agents.

Would recommend highly to everybody!

Exceptional service from Lee

This is my second occasion I have had my home valued with Lee from the Chelmsford branch.
Lee was extremely professional, knowledgeable and attentive to all questions I had. He is someone I would trust through start to finish with any purchase or sale when it comes to properties. I can’t recommend him enough, he’s a major asset to William H. Brown.

Avoid at alk cost

Untrustworthy, arrogant, disrespecful.
Do not use especially if you have health issues such as high blood pressure and a nervous disposition. Dealing with them will make you ill as it has done us.
They lack compassion and integratery.
We are dealing with W H Brown Stowmarket . We are not sure if we are still buying a bungalow in Stowupland as they have relisted it at a higher sale price than the offer they agreed with us.
Without informing us. This is the second time this property has been relisted while going through a sale with us. Close to signing they decided to see if they can get more money while keeping us hanging. W H Brown admitted when we looked at the property it was not worth the asking price as it needed a renovation and had no kitchen.

Stay well clear of this estate agent!

Do not go with this estate agent!!!
Absolutely useless. They could not wait to come and put our house on the market and right from the start it was not good!
Wrong photos and we had to call them so many times with the write up of our property as they had missed lots of things out.
No contact with us for months and i had to ring up and see what was going on .we had two views in almost 10 months! The first one came and straight away wanted Land ! Which we do have so why send them around to have a look . The way they DONT communicate is just very unprofessional .
I would not recommend this estate agent stay well clear (Boston branch in linconshire )
We have now told them we want to take it off the market and go with some one else. The woman said we have got to give them 28 days notice which i have by a e mail. And i asked them to confirm they have received it and yet again no response... so called them after 3 weeks and the woman who i spoke to on the phone just couldnt be bothered and said yer that was me you sent that e mail to and just basically laughed at me!
Such an appalling way to be treated.

Its Rental Payments

I found my letting agent to be brilliant Mr N Bourne and I prefer to only deal with him as I found him to be quiet honest and extremely fair, I don’t like dealing with other people in the office as they don’t seem to be able to keep to their word.
But unfortunately the Connell Group who deal with sending out rental payments are absolutely terrible started off well on rent payments on time but after 6-7 months Iam constantly chasing for my rent not being paid on time.
So unfortunately at some point if this doesn’t get sorted I will have to leave.
They have a 2 day rule in which you are suppose to receive your rent, but they don’t keep to it this is Connells that is, and to make any complaint about this process you have to put it in writing to Connell Group who deal with rental payments going out and clearly can’t seem to do their job and keep to their own time line. Connells ensure they take it on time and take out their cut but just can’t seem to satisfy landlords and ensure they get their rent in time.
As I say I have only good things to say about my letting agent who has done his upmost for me, it’s the payments which seem to be causing the issue.

Avoid - horrible company and staff are useless.

I have had my house for sale with them for 20 weeks (crossgates/Leeds Branch) and it has been the most painful 20 weeks of my life. They have lost me 2 sales on my house due to lack of communication - I should really seek compensation as they have cost me thousands. Unless you want to have yours and the buyers time wasted do not use!

Zero effort, zero care

We entered a contract with Northampton branch, Bridge Street, around start of April and immediately after it seems all the team left and a new one came in. After a long time with no information about the process, we had to chase them to be told about the new team and how they were getting their bearings still. We ended up getting an offer and accepted it around August and since then had to continuously chase them to get any updates. Finally exchanged in December. After all the process was completed through solicitors WHB remembered they were missing a fee payment and then decided to actually communicate with us. Funnily enough, until then it was always us going after them. Horrible communication, no care for sellers. Do not recommend at all. Honestly, they made a lot of money with zero effort and zero care.
