I joined Hey Gen a few days ago after researching several sites. I tried a few others, but was not what I was after. Several wanted a yearly payment upfront before you could try it out. Not going to pay hundreds of dollars without first trying it.
So I signed up with Hey Gen and tried a few short videos on their Free subscription. I liked what I created, so decided to subscribe to the Creator Subscription. I am very happy with the results and especially the Customer Service I received immediately when I ran into any troubles with creating. Yes, the generation does take a while, but I don't mind waiting if the end result is what I am trying to achieve. Would highly recommend them.

Plans are misleading. You can't really manage videos even with a plan (I have creator; 200 credits). They say 30 min lenght videos but for "quality" videos (small letter) you need 20 credits per minute.

I subscribed to this service in the belief that I could rapidly create avatar based content from existing PPTs. The subscription info makes it seem like an unlimited number of videos can be generated, however in my experience this is untrue. Apparently if the platform notes an 'unusually high number of voice adjustments, renders or previews', then the system blocks your ability to generate videos for 24 hours. Checked this with an agent via Chat as wasn’t happy with response. This is simply not practicable for creatives that need to produce at least 3 short videos in one day - I can only realistically output 1. In theory the app is useful, in practice not so much. Will cancel my subscription and look for another alternative.

Garbage. The script to video feature does nothing. You are not able to upload pictures that you want in the video, it constantly freezes, and you cannot add a style as it constantly glitches. When you try to contact customer care you are emailed by an AI Bot. No suprise here! Canceling my subscription and deleting the app.

I built my entire video production pipeline around HeyGen's API. Overall I have 179 videos produced so I decided to start to automate. I had 100+ more planned for a professional real estate licensing curriculum I am working on now. I'm writing this because of specific, documented failures that cost me real money and were handled outright BADLY by their service team.
The billing system charges you for failed renders. The API accepts your job, runs compute for several minutes, then returns a failure code after consuming your credits. Not a pre-flight check — mid-render. I confirmed this directly with API logs and screenshots: one render ran for 2.5 minutes before failing, and $22.40 was deducted from my balance with no video delivered. This happened 12 times across two days. Approximately $268 consumed for zero output. My auto-top-up was enabled and fired but too late AND the failed render was still billed against the freshly loaded balance.
The quota monitoring endpoint returns a static number regardless of your actual balance. You cannot check your spend programmatically. Every failure is a blind surprise with no way to prevent it.
Six support agents handled my ticket with no coordination between them. I was told to stay in one thread — that thread went 18 hours with no response. When I escalated I was told to stop opening tickets. The ghosting continued.
When I asked for a sales call to discuss volume pricing — six requests across chat, email, Instagram, and a web form — the answer was: $25,000 minimum upfront annual commitment to qualify for a PHONE CALL and even if I said yes, there was a waiting list. I was an active paying customer in the thousands of dollars (just not willing to pay $25K upfront). That is how they communicate that your account size doesn't matter.
The avatar quality is genuinely good. The API is real. The service is so bad and frustrating that I wish I had started with Synthesia or another provider.
"Unlimited" is a scam. 36-hour waiting time for one video.
Don’t fall for the "Unlimited" marketing on the Creator Plan. It’s a total bait-and-switch.
On their website, HeyGen claims you get unlimited video generation for public avatars. I reached the support to clarify and they confirmed.
But, what they didn't tell that once you hit a certain threshold, they throttle your account to the point of being useless. You can wait for a 36-hour delay to generate a single video. Thirty-six hours! In what world is that "unlimited"? It’s a soft ban disguised as a technicality.
They hide the truth about the 200-credit cap and the throttling until they have your credit card info. This is dishonest, predatory, and honestly, just a trash way to treat customers.Stay far away from HeyGen. They’ll take your money and then kill your workflow.
upd. why didn't you put all this info openly? why do we need to get ut after payment only?

Hell on earth!
Subscribed to use new avatar V, no avatar V available in the account only IV. Then customer support looked like they didn't even know V was out, publicly promoted on their youtube, their email newsletter. It was everywhere. But as a paid user they thought I didn't have the right to have it and I should stick with the sucky IV version. Limited roll out must be kept private, otherwise it's fraudolent business practice to entice user with a new functionality and not making it available after they subscribe.

I tried it in the free version, 1 minute shorts video keeps generating, and it is stuck at 99% and not complete. I kept opening the project refreshed and kept checking after hours, but it did only one thing: "wasting my time." Also, the voice mirroring in the Hindi language was worse than expected.

I’m genuinely frustrated with my experience due to the lack of pricing transparency.
My entire monthly plan was exhausted after creating just one 8-minute video — and the result wasn’t even satisfactory. It’s hard to understand how a monthly subscription can effectively end within minutes of use.
From a user perspective, this feels misleading and not aligned with what a “monthly plan” implies.
I would appreciate a clear explanation of how usage is calculated and what options are available to resolve this fairly.

I really enjoyed using HeyGen and found it very useful for creating AI clones of myself and making mass amounts of content with my clones by simply doing the script to video feature. They also provide a variety of other tools when editing your clones video so it can come out just as you want, which I really appreciated. One thing I wish was different was the generating time can be a bit slow.

Scumbags—there is absolutely no way to cancel the subscription on their site; their instructions don't work.

I took so many pictures and not once did it generate an avatar that looked like me, i finished all my credit in 24hours just to try and create and avatar...dont waste your money

How many times do I have to cancel before my account is cancelled? Not to be trusted.

I tested HeyGen with a short 9:16 video, which worked well. Based on that, I purchased a subscription expecting to be able to create videos as advertised.
Immediately after subscribing, I attempted to upload a new 16:9 image. Instead, the system triggered a render of the previous 9:16 project without any clear warning. There was no confirmation step, no cancel option, and no way to stop the process once it started. My credits were consumed instantly.
HeyGen promotes “up to 30 minutes of video,” but in practice this is not usable video output — it’s a hidden rendering budget that can be drained by a single mistake. This is not made clear in any meaningful way before purchase or usage.
From a European consumer perspective, this is highly problematic:
Lack of clear pricing transparency
No safeguards against accidental charges
No obvious or accessible support channel
No undo or cancellation for irreversible actions
In many EU jurisdictions, this kind of design would likely be challenged as misleading or unfair commercial practice.
The core technology is impressive, but the business model and UX feel intentionally designed to maximize accidental credit consumption rather than provide a fair user experience.
Until this is fixed, I cannot recommend this service.
✏️ Update after response from HeyGen:
After my review, HeyGen responded asking for more information, which sounds helpful on the surface.
However, the actual experience has not improved. I attempted another video, and again the system defaulted to the wrong format (9:16 instead of 16:9). Even worse, the “video” output was not a video at all — just a static image (JPG) with audio, with no visible animation or movement. This is bad!
This raises additional concerns:
The system behaves unpredictably (wrong format again)
The output does not match what is advertised (no actual video movement)
No proactive investigation or explanation was provided in their response
The reply I received felt more like a standard template than a genuine attempt to understand or resolve the issue.
At this point, the problem is not just credits — it’s also reliability and product quality. I've canceled my subscribtion after few days and no help; I lost $30US for nothing!

I’m a paying Hygen subscriber and have faced nothing but problems since day one. The platform is unstable, full of bugs, and every update seems to break something new.
Latest issue: I spent three days creating an internal training video. After a simple text correction, the new version suddenly included constant keyboard typing sounds throughout the video. The entire project became unusable.
The support is completely ineffective. I was passed from one agent to another with no real answers. One agent even told me he couldn’t find anything in their documentation—so I had to send him the link myself to Hygen’s own page explaining that transitions can include special effects like the “typewriter.” That option no longer exists in the interface, meaning it can’t be disabled.
The only solution they suggested: start over. Unacceptable for a paid service. Hygen focuses more on self-promotion than on making a stable product. Avoid at all costs

Guys, whoever that is considering to subscribe, Heygen won't keep their word. When you use for free, they will help you generate images. Even then, the prompt instructions won't be followed and there will be mistakes. So you have to generate more than 1 video until it hits a pay wall. Then when you pay, everything begins to breakdown. they will always tell you to respond to the information request, but they are just lying. remember, it is intentional. Once they get your money, you lost it forever...they do this again and again. And some people are behind the scenes responding with useless resplies in Trustpilot. Those fellas who respond to our complaints are just paid actors and liars. They know what they are doing!

Terrible experience with support, video generation is continually poor. Strongly recommend looking at alternatives.

Amazing. I have just this word.
I scaled my ads to the sky from french to US
No transparency about their subscription. They claim to be unlimited meanwhile after subscription they switch to a credit system even with their Avatar video generation feature.
Heygen is a scam. I need a refund.
