Not a boat, but a money pit – and I’m the fall guy!

Our charter with Yachting in Sardinia was deeply frustrating from the moment technical problems became visible. We had no reason to damage the dinghy motor ourselves, and we believe it had been in poor condition already before our departure. Despite that, the operator quickly turned the discussion against us and behaved as if the matter was already settled. There was very little real investigation, and the responses we received felt defensive rather than helpful. We were especially unhappy about the lock issue and the way safety concerns were treated. To then find that 250 EUR had been withheld from our deposit made the whole experience feel even more unfair. We expected a professional operator, but instead we experienced poor communication, blame-shifting, and a complete lack of customer care.

Dear Yevgen,

I will answer with the same content I previously shared, since this refers to the same charter as Mr. Alexander Koshel:

Regarding the outboard engine, we would like to clarify an important factual point. Before your embarkation, the outboard was inspected by our certified mechanic during the check-out procedure and was found to be fully operational, with no technical irregularities detected. Furthermore, the crew who chartered the yacht immediately before your booking used the same outboard throughout their charter and confirmed that it functioned correctly without reporting any issues.

For these reasons, we cannot confirm the existence of a pre-existing fault at the time of delivery.

With regard to the security deposit, any deduction is made only after a technical assessment and in accordance with the terms of the charter agreement. Our decisions are based on objective inspections and documented findings rather than assumptions. We understand that customers may disagree with the outcome, but we reject the suggestion that conclusions are reached before the facts have been properly examined.

Our objective is always to resolve any issue fairly, professionally, and transparently while ensuring the safety and reliability of our fleet for every guest.

We appreciate your comments and wish you fair winds in your future sailing adventures.

Kind regards,

Federica, YiS Team

We had a réservation in july.
First they tried to charge us for desalisator as a option White it was inclused.
Then they charged us for a damage 2 days after White there’s nothing to déclare during the technical Check out.
They don’t consider that we had no thruster and no windlass during the Cruise. It seems to be usual.
We called to have réparation but we never succeed.
They are no faired as it was stressful for us during Windy Anchorage.

Dear Frédéric,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry that some aspects of your charter caused you frustration, but we would like to clarify several important points for the sake of accuracy.

Regarding the watermaker, we would like to clarify the conditions under which it was included in your charter and the optional services indicated in the booking documentation. Our additional equipment and services are clearly specified in our price lists and booking terms, and we always aim to provide transparent information before the start of each charter.

With regard to the bow thruster, we must clarify that its failure was not due to a pre-existing technical problem. Following the charter, our technical inspection established that the bow thruster propeller had become detached during navigation. This is the reason why the thruster was subsequently unavailable.

A technical damage of this nature cannot necessarily be identified or assessed immediately during a standard check-out. As with any underwater technical inspection, determining the cause and timing of the damage requires a careful examination of the current photographic evidence, together with comparison with the photographs and documentation from the previous check-in and charter. This process is necessary to establish objectively whether the damage was pre-existing or occurred during the charter.

For the same reason, the fact that a problem was not immediately recorded during the physical check-out does not mean that a technical damage identified subsequently cannot be investigated. Our approach is precisely to verify the facts carefully before making any charge to a security deposit.

We also understand that sailing without a bow thruster can be inconvenient, particularly in windy conditions. However, the fact that the component was unavailable does not in itself indicate that the yacht was delivered with a defective thruster or that the company failed to provide assistance. The underlying cause of the failure had to be established first.

We are therefore unable to agree with the suggestion that such situations are "usual" or that the company acted unfairly. Our technical and administrative procedures are specifically designed to ensure that any damage is assessed objectively and supported by appropriate evidence.

We regret that the situation caused you stress during your holiday, but we remain confident that the technical assessment and the subsequent handling of the matter were carried out correctly and transparently.

Kind regards,
The Yachting in Sardinia Team

The boat was delivered in poor cleanliness

The boat was delivered in poor cleanliness, the forward cabin couldn't be used due to a strong garbage smell; possibly previous crew stored their trash bags in that cabin. As a result, one of my crew members had to sleep in the salon with all his belongings there. Unforgivable for a boat of that size.

Second, self-check-in is strongly inadvisable, especially on boats one doesn't know, and we're not on vacation to read endlessly long manuals. That caused us three main problems: we could only use the water maker on the last day, the aft port cabin had no electricity from the second day onward, meaning the toilet couldn't be used, and the 220v outlets stopped working on the first day. All unacceptable issues, especially since WhatsApp support was unavailable except when someone from your company deigned to respond, several hours after the inquiry.

Dear Jorge,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that some aspects of your charter did not meet your expectations.

Regarding the cleanliness of the yacht, we would like to clarify that the standard cleaning included in the charter was carried out before your arrival. An additional deep-cleaning service had not been requested or booked for your charter. Nevertheless, we regret that an unpleasant smell was present in the forward cabin and understand the inconvenience this may have caused. This is certainly not the experience we want our guests to have.

With regard to the self check-in, this is an established procedure that allows our guests greater flexibility and is supported by detailed instructions and our assistance channels. We understand that some guests may prefer a traditional check-in with a member of staff, and we are sorry that this procedure did not meet your expectations.

As for the watermaker, electrical supply in the aft cabin and 220V outlets, these are technical matters that can occasionally occur despite the checks carried out before each departure. Once a technical issue is reported, our team assesses the situation and provides assistance with the aim of restoring the affected equipment as quickly as possible.

We also regret that you experienced delays in receiving responses through WhatsApp. During periods of particularly high operational activity, response times can unfortunately be longer than we would like, but this does not mean that requests are ignored or that our team is unwilling to assist. Every reported issue is taken into consideration and followed up according to its nature and urgency.

We understand that, after investing in a sailing holiday, guests expect the yacht to be perfectly prepared and all its systems to operate without inconvenience. We are therefore sorry that your experience fell short of those expectations.

At the same time, we believe it is important to distinguish between an issue concerning the standard preparation of the yacht, optional services that were not requested, and unforeseen technical problems that may arise during a charter.

We appreciate your feedback and will take your comments into consideration as we continue working to improve both our preparation procedures and our customer support.

Kind regards,
The Yachting in Sardinia Team

I strongly recommend avoiding this…

I strongly recommend avoiding this company if you want a worry-free holiday.

We are experienced sailors and have rented many boats over the years, so we understand that occasional technical issues can happen. However, this experience was far below any reasonable standard.

We rented the highest-tier boat they offered, but its condition was very disappointing. The boat was poorly maintained, and several essential items were charged as extras, even though some were unavailable or did not work properly.

The boat was also not ready on time. Because of their delay, we could only leave one day later and lost a full day of our holiday.

Customer service was almost non-existent. Communication was difficult, staff were often rude, and instead of being able to speak with a real person, we were repeatedly pushed to use an AI chatbot. This made it extremely difficult to resolve the problems.

The company charges extra for almost everything, but the quality of the boat and the service do not justify the price. In our experience, they did not take responsibility when things went wrong.

We would be happy to update this review if our concerns are properly addressed and meaningful action is taken. If the company chooses not to respond or resolve the issues, it will unfortunately confirm our impression that customer satisfaction is not a priority.

This was the worst experience

This was the worst experience, unfortunately.

I have been on different boats in different countries, with different captains, so I have something to compare it to and I can definitely say that this experience was the worst in all respects: the boat, the skipper and the agency itself showed themselves poorly.

The boat:
1. Not equipped with a generator, accordingly there is no electricity, no air conditioning in the cabins, there is air conditioning in the cabin, but it is pointless, since it only works in the port, when the power grid is connected. But in any case, the air conditioning worked only one day - then it broke.
2. The boat itself is very tired and not maintained - many breakdowns: some doors are broken, one hose outside was damaged and it was inconvenient to wash it, some rigging is in poor condition and needs to be replaced. There are no mosquito nets on some windows and when we reported this to the agency on the first day, they said they couldn't help us with this issue.
3. Very bad pillows outside - very thin, bad and poor quality, and most importantly you have to pay for them separately! They charged €400 or something like that for them - in my opinion it's just a scam because they are really very cheap and poor quality.
4. We ordered linen but they didn't make it - very strange. Then we paid for it separately.
5. Also the shelf in the fridge was broken - no one cared about it.
6. One of the toilets was broken and all the waste went straight into the sea - I don't know how that's possible. The other toilets didn't work well in the sense that I had to flush 5-6 times to finally get it clean.
7. When we first set sail on the first day, one of the engines broke down. We were stuck in one place for a while until the technical team arrived - they fixed the engine and we moved on.
8. Also, the fans in the cabins were very dirty. And some of the blinds were broken - I couldn't close the window.

Skipper Ricardo:

1. The first suspicions arose when the skipper did not conduct a briefing - he did not tell anything, did not show where and what equipment and how to use it, did not explain where the life jackets are, etc. Very bad. But he immediately asked if I knew how to moor, because he would need help, since the boat is very big. And all this was difficult, because the skipper does not know English at all - I do not know how he was allowed to work with tourists.
2. Smokes narcotic weed every day - I do not understand how you can use narcotic substances when you are responsible for people. He tried to hide it, but you can not hide the smell. It is very, very bad. But I already understood that our agency is bad, so I did not want to inform them about it right away - I was afraid that they would not be able to quickly find a replacement for the captain.
3. In general, I got the impression that he had never driven catamarans before - he was inexperienced. Maybe he had driven small yachts before, but this was his first time on a 4.8 catamaran. Often he could not find a good place to park in the bay or on the beach for a long time. We were with friends and he did not want to stand together with them - he was afraid to tie up to the second catamaran. Only on the fifth day did he finally agree to stand together with two boats - and this mooring took half an hour🤦🏻‍♂️
4. In general, each anchorage near the beach is 30 minutes of parking time. The captain of the second catamaran, on which our friends were, noticed that Ricardo anchors anywhere - he does not know, if the anchor gets under a rock, it will be a big problem.

Agency:
1. The agency has its own pier, but it is very inconvenient - there is no way to arrive by car, and you have to carry all your things and all the products yourself, and it is quite difficult on a bad path, because they did not manage to lay at least a plastic path for convenience - very bad.
2. There is no office as such - there is just a tent on the pier, which is very inconvenient. On the day of registration there was a strong wind - it was uncomfortable.
3. In general, a rather strange experience with this company, which charged for everything possible - even for pillows on the yacht - very strange. Separately, they charged me 150€ for using the thruster - I have never encountered this before. It is good that they did not charge a separate fee for using the toilet...

There were other troubles, but in general, I think, everything was understood. Unfortunately, this week of vacation didn't go very well, although the sea and beaches were beautiful.

Dear Yevhen,

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear that your charter did not meet your expectations and that you left with such a negative impression of your experience.

We would, however, like to clarify some of the points raised in your review, as several aspects require additional context.

Regarding the yacht and the technical issues, we acknowledge that some unexpected problems occurred during your charter, including the engine issue reported on the first day. Our technical team intervened and repaired the engine so that you could continue your cruise. As with any yacht, particularly during an active charter season, unexpected technical issues can unfortunately occur despite the checks and maintenance carried out before each departure. What is important to us is that reported problems are addressed as promptly as possible, and this is what our team endeavoured to do.

The yacht's air-conditioning system is designed to operate when connected to shore power, as specified in the yacht's technical configuration. The fact that a yacht is not equipped with a generator is therefore not a technical defect but part of the vessel's specifications. Optional equipment and services are also clearly indicated in our official price list and in the booking documentation.

Regarding the pillows and other optional equipment, these are offered as optional extras and are clearly listed as such before the booking is confirmed. Our pricing structure is designed to allow guests to choose the services and equipment they actually require rather than incorporating all possible extras into the base charter price.

With regard to the linen, fridge shelf, mosquito nets, blinds and other items you mention, we regret that these matters affected your perception of the yacht. However, where an issue is reported during a charter, our team needs to be given the opportunity to inspect it and, whenever possible, resolve it. We are always happy to address such matters when they are brought to our attention.

We would also like to address your comments concerning the skipper. Some of the allegations made in your review are extremely serious, particularly the allegation concerning the use of narcotic substances. We take such matters extremely seriously and cannot simply accept or confirm allegations of this nature without objective evidence. The safety of our guests is our absolute priority, and our skippers are expected to operate the yachts in full compliance with our professional and safety standards.

Similarly, comments regarding a skipper's experience or ability to manoeuvre a particular yacht are subjective assessments that may differ from our own professional evaluation. Nevertheless, we take your feedback seriously and will review the matter internally.

Finally, regarding our base and pricing, our operating structure and the location of our facilities are established in order to manage a large charter fleet efficiently. The optional services and associated charges are communicated in advance and form part of the charter conditions accepted at the time of booking. This includes the use of optional equipment such as the bow thruster.

We are genuinely sorry that, despite the beautiful sailing conditions and destinations you experienced, the overall charter did not live up to your expectations. At the same time, we believe it is important for future guests reading this review to know that we do not ignore technical problems or customer concerns and that our team remains committed to providing assistance whenever an issue is properly reported during a charter.

We appreciate your feedback and will use the points raised to continue improving our service and the experience we provide to our guests.

Kind regards,
Federica YiS Team

Dear Elena,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are genuinely sorry that your charter did not begin as smoothly as expected.

Unfortunately, the battery charger malfunction was an unexpected technical failure that could not have been reasonably anticipated before your arrival. As soon as the issue was correctly identified, our technical team worked promptly to resolve it and restore the yacht to full operational condition as quickly as possible.

We understand that having to spend your first night in the marina was disappointing. For this reason, we offered you a late check-out, allowing you additional time on board to compensate for the inconvenience and ensure you could enjoy the full duration of your holiday as much as possible.

We would also like to clarify that, throughout the check-in process, our staff remained fully available to assist you and accommodate every request. Although the situation was understandably frustrating, some of the interactions with our team became difficult, with our operator's professionalism being questioned while he was actively working to identify and resolve the issue. In addition, our dock staff were interrupted several times with requests that fell outside the standard check-in procedure. Nevertheless, our team responded to each request with the utmost willingness and professionalism, as our priority has always been to provide the best possible assistance to our guests.

While we regret that this unforeseen event affected the start of your holiday, we are pleased that the technical issue was resolved and that the remainder of your charter proceeded normally.

Thank you again for your feedback, which we always value as an opportunity to continue improving our service.

Kind regards,

We are very dissatisfied with how…

We are very dissatisfied with how Yachting in Sardinia handled our charter. The first impression was not terrible, but the problems started as soon as we tried to use the dinghy and realized the outboard motor was not working correctly. In addition, the cabin lock issue made us worry about safety and basic maintenance. We reported these matters in good faith and expected the operator to investigate them professionally. Instead, we were met with blame, skepticism, and a very defensive attitude. It felt as though the company was more interested in protecting its mechanic and avoiding responsibility than in treating guests fairly. The final charge of 250 EUR from our deposit, without our approval, made the whole situation feel even more unjust. We left with the impression of a company that handles problems badly and communicates even worse.

Dear Wladimir,

Really unprofessional customer service

We left our charter with a very bad feeling about Yachting in Sardinia. At handover, the boat looked mostly acceptable, but after departure we quickly ran into serious technical issues that affected our trip. The dinghy outboard did not work properly, and there was also a problem with the cabin door lock, which made us feel uneasy about safety and the overall maintenance level. What made the experience worse was the way the situation was handled. Instead of calmly checking the problem and looking at the evidence, the operator reacted in a defensive and accusatory way, as if the fault had already been decided before any real inspection. We felt dismissed, blamed, and not taken seriously. To make matters worse, 250 EUR was taken from our deposit even though we clearly disputed the charge. That left us feeling that the operator cared more about protecting itself than treating customers fairly.

Between Sardinia and Corsica

The entire trip, from the booking process to returning the yacht, went perfectly. The YiS team was very supportive and helped me with every question I had along the way.
The provided yacht "Karibu", a Dufour 360 GL (2018), was in very good condition, and I experienced no technical issues during the trip. The yacht handled super, and all onboard systems, including the heads, worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to sail under sails, but I inspected them carefully and they were also in excellent condition (technician told me that they were changed in the end of last season).

During the check-in process, I had enough time to inspect the yacht on my own before the technician arrived. This allowed me to calmly take photos, thoroughly check everything, and even inspect the hull underwater with an action camera. Everything was in excellent condition. Afterwards, together with the technician, we reviewed the inventory and the yacht checklist, and the entire process went very smoothly.

The check-out and yacht return process was equally professional and efficient.

I would like to sincerely thank the YiS team for their responsiveness, professionalism, and friendly approach throughout the entire experience.

Do not use this company, just bad

Do not use this company. Battery for motor was faulty and we had to return twice to a harbour to charge as house batteries were linked to motor which should not be so. We had to take out the thruster battery and move it every time to start.
We have our own boat and have many years of sailing and boating experience, we wanted to try a trimaran and this company ruined our holiday. We did not feel safe.
Lifejackets were just rubbish old orange 🍊 foam floaters, not appropriate for a life line attachment.
Ropes too short to be safely usable
Mainsail was so stiff we needed 2 people to pull it down! Handheld radio not working so they just took it and said it’s ok you don’t need it.
Fuel spillage so bad one cabin was like being inside a fuel tank, took me 2 hours to clean it. Still not great
No instruction, things broken falling off doors etc, and equipment missing, seat cushions from other boats which didn’t fit, mess even mold, self check in is a joke.
We returned Wednesday evening in 25-30 knots and were told there’s no help at the harbour if we arrive after 17:00, luckily we were there shortly before so someone was there to help with morning, then he disappeared. Everything was soaked and all the deck cushions inside so we went to a hotel. They fixed just the ropes and battery by Thursday late afternoon. As we only had one night left as we had to be back by Friday night we left the boat. No compensation
Avoid at all costs
Just like to add that your response below is incorrect, nothing was promptly dealt with and we were never rude. We fixed some things ourselves and safety is not “ personal preference “, luckily we had taken our own lifejackets as those provided were not ok, no matter what the response below says. just to mention a few points in your response. Don’t you dare try to put the blame on us

Dear Mr. Klammer,

Thank you for your feedback. We're truly sorry that your experience didn't meet your expectations and would like to provide some clarifications.

First of all, we'd like to emphasize that all your requests during the charter were promptly addressed, including those regarding technical support, dockside assistance, and even your request for a charter extension, which unfortunately we couldn't accommodate due to the vessel's imminent booking.

The battery issue you reported was resolved as quickly as possible by our team, and we're sorry it affected your itinerary. Our technicians responded promptly and the issue was resolved, with the yacht in perfect working order. Regarding safety equipment, we comply with all regulatory standards and provide life jackets suitable for both everyday and emergency use, although we understand that personal preferences may vary. We would like to point out that our standards are well above the industry average; both our personal life jackets and MOB are self-inflating.

It's important to note that our dockside and reception staff have always maintained their professionalism, despite encountering instances of rudeness. We never consider this to be justified, especially when we do our best to assist you. We also remind you that check-in is supported by a digital system with the yacht's complete documentation, including manuals. This modern approach allows both experienced and less experienced crews to take charge of the vessel independently and responsibly, supported by digital information made available to the Captain upon booking confirmation. Our delivery operator then shows the Captain the vessel's brief technical data sheet, assessing their understanding of it for obvious safety reasons. The Captain and the entire crew receive ongoing technical and commercial assistance throughout the booking period.

While we regret that this experience wasn't what you hoped for, we believe we acted professionally and in good faith at every stage. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, we remain open to a constructive dialogue.

Kind Regards,
YiS Team

Quite satisfied

We haven't had any problems. The ladies in the office are very nice, and we haven't paid any fines. Just follow the guidelines, which isn't that difficult. We booked Bali46 and quite satisfied.

A good week of sailing on Viridis, thank you.

Charter period: 1 week (September/October 2025)

POSITIVES: Office staff were very helpful - Antonina, Roberta (pre-charter) and, particularly, Federica (throughout) provided great assistance. Checkout with Omar was a breeze, and the deposit returned swiftly. Viridis (Dufour 37) proved to be an excellent cruiser in its class; the boat was clean, generally in a good condition and exceptionally comfortable for our crew of four - overall a great joy to sail (the bowthruster, though, was unreliable).

Where we see room for IMPROVEMENT: The bureaucracy and the hostile contract T&C's are a significant put-off, adding unnecessary stress to the check-in process. The DSC was disabled - I urge YiS to reassess this (particularly for clients exempt from standard contractual navigation limits). Although it didn't bother us too much, we found that SeaTutor wasn't really fit for purpose - slow, very poor resolution and simply wouldn't have helped us assess the proximity of forbidden areas. Viewed on the chart, the areas themselves were largely uncontroversial.

RECOMMENDATIONS for prospective clients: If you can, start communicating with YiS staff a few months in advance of arrival (or sort everything out during low season). We had lots of questions and most of them were answered.

Dear Boleslaw,
thanks a lot for your wonderful and detailed review.
I appreciate the fact that you found our assistance and services (cleaning, check out, etc.) reliable and this makes us very, very happy; we really do our best.

For what concerns the T&C, they are the result of the many experiences the company had during the 25+ years of activity.
As much as I can imagine that some clients often misunderstand the intentions behind the contract, I can assure you that the aim is not to put stress on our guests but to provide a safe holiday.
SeaTutor is a work in progress, we will of course take notes from your comments and use them to improve our service!

Thanks a lot for your honesty and help and I hope to have you back soon on board of one of our SY as our guest!

Have a wonderful day and fair winds!
Best Regards,
