I recently booked my Mercedes GLC in for a service and MOT at Stratstone Mercedes-Benz Glasgow and unfortunately had a very concerning experience.
I was advised that my vehicle would fail its MOT due to a “collision fault on dash requiring investigation.” However, there were no warning lights illuminated on the dashboard, and I had not experienced any issues with the car.
When I queried this, I was told that the vehicle would still fail unless I agreed to a diagnostic investigation starting at £180, potentially more depending on what they found — regardless of the fact that no warning light was present.
From my understanding of MOT regulations, a vehicle should only fail for safety system faults (such as SRS/airbags) if a warning light is actually illuminated or indicates a fault during the test. The MOT is not intended to rely on stored or hidden diagnostic codes where no dashboard warning is present.
This left me feeling that:
The MOT criteria may have been incorrectly applied
I was being pressured into unnecessary diagnostic work
The situation was not explained clearly or transparently
As a result, I chose not to proceed and have taken the car elsewhere for a second opinion.
I would strongly advise others to seek clarification and, if necessary, a second opinion if faced with a similar situation.
Very disappointing experience from a main dealer, where you would expect accuracy, transparency, and adherence to official testing standards.

I visited Mercedes Glasgow today to have a small part replaced after an assist call out. From start to finish I was truly impressed with everything but especially with my service agent Claire. Claire did something that many people don’t do these days, “she listened “fully” to what I had to say about the car properly” Many people pre-empt things nowadays and stomp over what you are trying to tell them rushing things. It is obvious to me that Claire is highly experienced. Perhaps this is why the speed of service was also exemplary as the techs were told “everything” that Claire had relayed. This is so important. So many times, in the past things got missed at Services with other branches. As a Mercedes Customer service recipient for some 30 years now and been on the receiving end of how service levels dropped over the years, I have to say I am very impressed. Thank you Claire and team.

Had my car booked in today with the garage, as soon as I stepped in the garage I was greeted with a smile and with the upmost respect. Had a quick chat with the service manager Andrew who for someone so young blew me away with his knowledge of all things Mercedes just makes you feel that little more confident in the place when you know they really do know there stuff. Thanks again to the full team at the service desk and Andrew keep working on that golf swing
