Avoid! Not worth the hassle!

Reading other people’s reviews hasn’t surprised me after the experience I have had. My will was “acquired” by Simpsons after my solicitor apparently stopped providing or storing wills. My husband and I assumed that both our wills had been transferred to them but one of their very nice solicitors informed us that they only had mine (three years after the transfer).
My husband has tracked his down. We’ve decided to go with a local, recommended solicitor for new wills with amendments but Simpsons are refusing to send my will back to me and being very obstructive to my wishes even though I never asked for my will to go to them in the first place.
I will be making a new will with the local solicitor whether they return mine or not but the way the operate isn’t impressive and doesn’t instil any confidence in their ability to provide the service you need!

Paid for a will three years ago, still don't have one!

I paid for a will three years ago. The first meeting was comprehensive; however, the solicitor didn’t reply to my final email. I contacted them again and finally received a reply last year, when I was told I would need to pay to recover my case.

After checking the terms I had signed up to, I pointed out that there were no details to recover, as they hadn’t produced anything, and the fee was waived. I then made some progress, but later received a letter in the post including my “draft will", except there was no will included, just the covering letter.

This year I was called and told my solicitor had left. Eventually I was contacted by Ellie Surridge. We’ve had a few email exchanges and got to a draft will; however, it was incorrect. I submitted feedback, and I now have three unread messages in their portal over two months later and still don’t have a will, and I’m £1,500 worse off for the experience.

As many others have also reviewed: don’t bother.

Very disappointing experience

Very disappointing experience. We asked Simpsons of Nailsea to draft our wills for us but the process was beset with errors on their part. Wills had to be drafted 5 times due to basic grammatical errors (such as referring to my husband as a woman); errors that had been corrected resurfaced in later drafts, and there was clearly no proof reading. When I complained, there was no acknowledgment that this was a poor standard of service. These were very simple wills so I would not recommend Simpsons at all.

It took nearly a year , delay after delay rude email replies saying we spelt our own names wrong we even provided passports . The will has been done not as requested and names also spelt wrong . I have asked for a refund but they refused. Save your money pick a different company .

Free Will service provided by these solicitors.

I had my Will written by them at their Southwick office. It was totally free as I am over 55 years. They were very helpful and the Legal Advisor who handled my case was very knowledgeable. He was also very prompt with reply to emails and in answering my questions. They were very friendly too. I would recommend them. No issues whatsoever. I now have a complete Will stored at their offices for FREE and forever. Thank you.

Extremely disappointing and stressful experience

Our case was transferred to this firm after Terry Jones Solicitors went into liquidation. We had an initial conversation and meeting where a quote was discussed, but we never signed any terms of engagement or authorised work to proceed.

After chasing for updates and receiving no meaningful response for months, we were suddenly sent draft wills along with an invoice for over £1,000. We immediately made it clear that we did not wish to proceed.

Despite this, we are now receiving aggressive debt recovery letters, including references to legal action, for work we did not agree to or formally instruct.

Attempts to contact the firm by phone have been unsuccessful, and communication throughout has been extremely poor.

This situation has caused unnecessary stress and concern. We are now in the process of raising a formal complaint with the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Based on our experience, I would strongly advise others to ensure they have clear written agreements in place before any work is carried out.

I would not recommend Simpsons…

I would not recommend Simpsons Solicitors
We instructed them to amend my husband will to reflect a change of address and my name following our marriage because our original solicitor had gone into administration and they had taken over. This should have been a straight forward and routine amendment, however the work provided was of a very poor standard. Most concerningly they failed to correctly update my name in the will, despite this being one of the main reasons for the instructions. Given the importance of accuracy in such documents, this was not a minor issue and along with other mistakes meant we could not rely on the will as drafted. As a result we had to instruct a local solicitor to redo the work properly. They were able to complete the amendments quickly and without difficulty, highlighting the shortcomings in the service we had received. We paid substantially for work that ultimately had to be redone and had to pay fully for again, I raised a formal complaint but this was not handled satisfactorily and a refund was refused. Given the importance of wills and the need for accuracy I would strongly recommend avoiding this organisation.

Demanding payment for a "Free Will"

A friend of mine was visited by them to write a "Free" Will.
She decided not to take up the option as she found them unprofessional. She has now received a phone call demanding £1,400 for a service she did not receive.
She feels so intimidated she is going to pay it.
Not a nice way to treat a pensioner in her late 70s.

This would be -1 if the option…THE MESS THEIR INCOMPETENCE HAS LEFT US WITH

This would be -1 if the option appeared.
They have left a friend of mine in a serious mess. We are elderly, live in extra care, one of the residents had no family and she asked a mutual close friend to be executor of the her will. This was at least six months ago. Simpsons provided two incorrect drafts and did not produce a correct will until 11 December 2025. Unfortunately, by this time this was received, a few days before Christmas, our friend was too ill to sign and passed on 29 December 2025. We have not been able to speak to Solicitor since. We have had to give them until 1 pm on Monday, 19 Jan 2026 before contacting Ombudsman. Our friend had left her money between two charities and a few personal gifts to other friends. We do not know how we stand. Please do not use this Solicitor if you want your loved ones wishes to be carried out. I will update this thread so as you can see the outcome.
Update. A letter from the Bereavement Dept, dated 30 January 2026, was received. They were requesting the signed copies of the deceased LPAs. We responded and two days later received a phone call advising that they were not aware that she had passed. They advised the person who had been dealing with the matter had left the company. Two days later, the person dealing with the matter phoned and apologised, and when she was asked who she was working for, apparently still employed by Simpsons. Monday, this week we have been advised that the chosen Executors would no longer be required as they had reverted to the original signed Will of 2022. This is a really stressful situation, particularly as the deceased wishes cannot be carried out. AVOID this company. There is an official complaint in with this company and if necessary will be escalating it further.

🔴STEER CLEAR of SIMPSONS⚠️⛔️

Another Update: Will finally done. They did personally visit me to sort will but I have made an official complaint but to date no acknowledgement. They have 8 weeks to respond and I will be going to Law Society.

UPDATE: After finally receiving my Will, my witnesses and I signed it, posted next day signed for delivery. I had proof of delivery AND STILL THEY LOST MY WIIL!!
They did contact me after I chased them to say they would personally visit my house with another copy of Will to sign. I have had to rearrange witnesses for next Tuesday 10th March. Watch this space to see if they turn up. I have insisted on a refund.

ALL I CAN SAY IS THEIR LOGO SHOULD BE "WRONG LEGAL GROUP"!!! 😡

3rd February chased for my will after last week promised it would be posted and I would get it Monday. Apparently, the administrator has been made redundant!!! Another person is dealing with it and promised it will be sent out tomorrow. Tomorrow i will be contacting my credit card to recall my money and find another company.

This company are very nice to start but communication is awful.

My will was taking over by them last year (2025) from a company that I set up with in shutdown. I needed to make one simple change, it was straightforward.
Unfortunately, I should of heard alarm bells in first instance when I was left hanging on our first zoom meeting and no one showed. But I like to give people a second chance. I've given them lots of chances each time met with an excuse of illness, car accident or on holiday. In the first apology it was mentioned they had some staff leave!!!! I should of turned on my heals at that point.
This company seems to be taking over companies without resources to support customers. It's only when I threaten them with Law Society that my draft was sent. It was all promised to be finished by Christmas 2025. But I heard nothing.
Today I had to became forceful, seems to be the only method to get anything done.

Please consider carefully your choice regarding this company.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. They have contacted us proactively as our previous lawyer's branch was sold to them. Fixing up a meeting and sending you 5 reminders about it is what they do best. The Draft is full of mistakes, the portal does not function, payment that we (sadly) made after the meeting with an adviser on acknowledged, no answers to multiple emails from us. Will follow the complaint procedure and request our money back

Do not use this company

Do not use this company they are a complete shambles. They are exploiting elderly people. They have taken a year to prepare a will and two POA's but they are still littered with errors including getting my name wrong on both documents. They fob you off with "the manager is reviewing the file" but nothing happens. They are effectively scammers

Awful service

I have been trying to get our Wills returned from Simpsons since October 2025 when my husband was very ill. Every time I phone I am told my request will be escalated to the document retrieval department. My husband has since passed away and it is now vital that I have possession of the original Wills for probate purposes. Again no communication from Simpsons.

An Unacceptable Experience.

This review relates to Simpsons Solicitors, Hadleigh, Suffolk.
My wife and I had prepared our wills and lodged them with a local solicitor. We wished to review a document accompanying each will and found that the solicitor had closed. We traced the wills to RightLegal Group and their local branch Simpsons. We were extremely annoyed that they had been transferred without our permission or knowledge. Initial contact was good and a representative from Simpsons visited us to discuss our needs. Thereafter they concentrated on advising us to set up a Trust and a Lasting Power of Attorney at what we considered at exorbitant rate. Later a senior person from Simpsons telephoned and offered a £500 pound reduction for this service. At this point we decided to withdraw our wills from their care. Eventually they were returned upon payment of a fee of £19.20

Beware

Simpson Solicitors presents itself as a local firm, but in reality it is just a shop front for Right Legal Group, which is based in Derby. This was never made clear during the will or probate process, causing confusion and delays. I was told I could deal locally, but all administration was handled remotely by staff with limited experience. The lack of transparency and misrepresentation is very concerning.

So upsettingly awful

So upsettingly awful. A simple draft will (which is literally just a template with certain, simple specific details added in) provided late. Amendments requested to the draft, by myself, within a few weeks after. Four months later - countless messages, emails sent by myself following up, requesting a response. Including a complaint raised. The literal only reply back in that period (via the messaging app/forum THEY required me to use) was to say 'sorry, the ADMIN dealing with your enquiry has been on holiday and will respond to you as a priority when she comes back on Monday' - that was over 2 months ago, not a single reply since, despite 5-6 follow ups and the complaint. They are literally withholding my will draft, that I paid £30--400 for. I feel powerless to do anything about it. I have asked for very simple amendments. Surely nothing more than an hour or two's work - they could then be done with it, as I could be, and we could move on. But no response at all. I don't want them to have anything to do with my Will moving forward but because they hold the draft, I am concerned for the executor status. I cannot describe how strongly I recommend everyone NOT TO USE this appalling company.
