Sophie Terry
Sophie Terry, Aylesbury branch, what a gem of a person. Amazing personality. Very thorough, yet very positive. First class. Just amazing. I will recommend you speak to Sophie Terry if you need a property in and around Aylesbury. She showed us two flats and both were just the perfect fit for the family. Can't praise her enough. Thank you for being just an amazing personality.
Very poor
Brown and Merry will say almost anything to get you to take a property. Sadly, once I’d moved in, their management was hopeless.
During my tenancy I had revamped and redecorated the house. It was pristine when I left. I had the place professionally cleaned, I’d weeded the garden and pruned the plants. I have photos which show the house was spotless.
Yet, Brown and Merry wanted to deduct £550 from my deposit.
Which is a lot of money.
I asked why.
They said the garden needed tidying. Yet their quote included time for tidying the lawn. Fair enough. Except that trimming it may prove difficult: it’s an artificial lawn. Made of plastic.
After months of fruitless chasing I still don’t have my deposit back. Or any good reason why it’s being held back.
My contact at Brown and Merry, Hannah Newman, has been almost completely unhelpful. With perhaps one exception: she advised me to take my complaint to the Tenancy Deposit Scheme as “they will adjudicate this out fairly”. Which is more than Hannah or Brown and Merry have managed. So I’ve taken her advice. I’ve lodged a complaint with the industry ombudsman.
I have also been in touch with Brown and Merry’s director, Mandy Horspole, but she didn’t help either. She simply begged me not to speak to the property's landlord. Which suggests they value some of their customers, just not their tenants.
I’d say, if you value your rental deposit, STAY AWAY!
--
A postscript: I challenged Brown and Merry via the Tenancy Deposit Scheme and managed to get 100% of my deposit back.
Couldn't get anything right no matter…
Couldn't get anything right no matter how patient we were and they couldn't care less. Wasted three weeks for nothing and the manager couldn't even be bothered to reply to my emails or make amends in person when i went to get my key back. Don't remember the last time i've left a review like this. Clearly so much work on they dont have to care about their clients.
Hemel Hempstead Branch
Nadya in Brown and Merry Watford branch
I can not thank enough to Nadya from Watford branch for all her support during our tenancy. She never said NO when we needed her help and she found solutions for absolutely every problem we had. She is extremely hard working, professional, trustworthy, punctual and she will update you with all the information you need every single time.
Nadya, thank you very much for everything you did for us! You are brilliant and you offered an impeccable service!
Hemel branch
List bait properties that are no longer available and continually fail to return calls over a number of weeks, despite multiple commitments 'to come right back' when followed up. The Dfferent excuses provided each time. Serious question marks re: the ethics of this place, and that's before we get on to their complete lack of basic professionalism. As a buyer I would not consider buying anywhere listed by this lot, even if I really liked the place... plenty of other professional outfits that do manage basic things like returning calls etc out there. Potential buyers and sellers beware. AVOID.
Leighton Buzzard branch
The Leighton Buzzard branch of Brown and Merry's is shockingly bad. The staff take days to respond to emails and then only give one sentence responses when they do and ignore half of your queries. They never return calls when the say they will. Then when you call them they are usually busy or away from their desk. If you finally get hold of them they say they'll do something for you then never follow up phone calls with any action or email confirmation or information they promised they would send over to you like links, numbers, documents etc. It feels like banging your head against a wall. They make doing their own job seem like they're doing you a huge favour and that is never a good thing. Just don't go there.
Very happy
We sold our house in MK via Brown and Merry in Newport Pagnell. They offered us a good deal and got the property sold for the full asking price within a few days. We had been with an online estate agent and had to use their solicitors and after 12 weeks the sale fell though because of the solicitors were rubbish. So we were very worried about the whole process starting again. These worried proved unfounded.
We are in the process of buying another house and happen to be buying a house with the same company Jones and Chapman in Wallasey. Although It is too early to rate them so far so good. Both have been very helpful and allowed us to submit our ID at the MK branch to save us a long drive.
