I’ve had a terrible experience with…

I’ve had a terrible experience with this company. I ordered the impression kit which never came (even though the tracker said it was delivered). I had to contact them multiple times to finally get a new kit sent. As soon as it arrived, I made the impressions and sent it back. It’s going on a month now, and I have nothing to show for any of it. They have been terrible to communicate with because you have to get past their bot to get a human. I’m very disappointed and do not recommend this company.

Very disappointed with Smile Set. I completed my impressions over a month ago and still have not received any response about whether I’m even eligible for a treatment plan. I’ve called twice trying to get an update and have gotten nowhere. The lack of communication and follow-up has been extremely frustrating. At this point, I can’t recommend this company based on my experience.

I need to straighten bottom teeth

I need to straighten bottom teeth. As a young girl I had braces but they have shifted. I finally had some time so called a few orthodontists and they wanted 150 for a consultation? I looked on line and saw the reviews for Smile Set. I went to the site, found out everything I needed in ten minutes. Signed up for monthly payments which include a dentist and my retainers. Recieved my impression kit in the mail in two days. I was emailed back in two days. They confirmed receipt. I am just waiting for my retainers. I have an orthodontist at my request 24/7. Didn't even have to set foot in an office. Wonderful!

Buyer beware placed an order on May…

Buyer bewarei placed an order on May 1st 2026. I quickly cancelled the next morning. There was a financial emergency situation that made me contact this company May 2nd 2026. I explained the situation and they keep emailing me to escalate the situation for a full refund! It is now May 5th and my refund is still being sent to different departments. They promised a 30 day back guarantee and I texted them even before I received the order in the mail and they ignored the request and still sent it! I will be calling my financial institution and request some help. I wouldn't care if this was a small purchase, but this is over $1,000 and I still haven't received it yet. I am so aggravated and there is no telephone number to call either. They also keep insisting that I try their product even though I keep asking for a refund. This is insane.

Ordered my nighttime Aligners a week ago on 4/27 still have not received them or any other type of notice of shipping or update on my Aligners since 4/27. If you have Aligners or retainers you know your TEETH shift back if you don’t wear them so I’m really disappointed at this point.

STAY FAR AWAY

This is the same company that scammed millions of people and got sued for it just under another name, previously Smile Direct Club. They destroyed my teeth and jaw and refused to refund me, and then filed for Bankruptcy to get out of paying thousands to customers that they halted treatment and broke contract with. They are still trying to squeeze all the money out of anyone they can from that era even though they didn't hold up their end of the bargain. I spent over 5k on Invisalign undoing what they did, and wasted 2k on a service I did not receive. When requesting my refund, they offered partial in exchange for an NDA assuring silence on their malpractice. STAY FAR AWAY.

Pick another company

So I picked smileset because the website said they would ship with in a week of them receiving the molds. It was exactly 1 month from start to finish. Then the tops dont fit very well. Just super disappointed. If you want a retainer set fast and to fit right definitely pick another company.

Awful experience

Awful experience. They sign you up for a subscription model and refuse to cancel the subsequent orders. I reached out to them many times with no response. Had to dispute the case with my credit card company. Beware!!!

Thin brittle retainers - Be careful!

I originally wrote a 5 star review for SmileSet when they were called Dr. Direct. I have ordered retainers several times and signed up for a subscription. However, the quality of their retainers changed and is no longer good. The first retainers were thicker and more substantial. The last ones I ordered were considerably thinner and cracked after less than 2 months. SmileSet replaced them with retainers that were once again of thinner material and poor quality. I cancelled my subscription. And this week I received an email trying to sell me teeth straightening! They said my teeth could use additional straightening. This is ridiculous and purely a money grabbing attempt. I will never buy from them again.

Retainers Don't Cover All Teeth

The process to make a retainer took longer than advertised and I only used them because it was supposed to be quick and I needed one urgently. Emails to customer service were ignored and the only response I could get was through an AI chatbot through their chat option on the website that didn't work well. I received passive aggressive texts daily from a chatbot, pretending to be a human assigned to your case, to make my impressions and saying it was here to help and to just reply to the text with any questions. I replied with a question and it was ignored for weeks.

They are also the only company I've seen that doesn't ship multiple sizes of impression trays with their kit. Instead, it's just size medium. Since I know I needed size small, I had to contact support multiple times until I got a human who put in a free new order to ship me size small trays a week later. Those trays were the exact same size on the outside of the arch, so barely fit in my mouth, but the inner arch was finally small enough to match the curve of my teeth. I made an impression, but almost vomited from having too big a tray and too much putty. I have made impressions before with other companies who ship three sizes of trays, including ones that are actually smaller and never have a problem.

Once I finally get my retainer, my first molars (third teeth from the end for people with every tooth) weren't even halfway covered. There was just a sharp straight cut randomly through the tooth, causing a sharp end which cuts up my mouth. I tried to get with support to mail me one that covers every tooth since every one of my teeth went through braces and needs a retainer, but the AI chatbot just had me fill out a form and I'm still waiting on a response. Meanwhile, the retainer barely stays in my mouth since it only covers ten of my upper teeth (people usually have 16 teeth each for their upper/lower).

On top of all of that, they randomly sent me someone else's order. I tried to contact support, but the chatbot kept saying I must be confused and have my email address wrong and forgot I ordered it. Finally, a human confirms they definitely sent me someone else's random order for a product I can't use and to just keep it. They refused to take the product back with a return shipping label and wanted me instead to pay to dispose of it (since it was an electronic). I instead had to go to the post office to refuse delivery and it was shipped back to them to dispose of since it was their mistake. It still wasted my time and they did nothing to make the situation better.

And since they have so many tech issues, that they will send you someone else's order, I wouldn't trust them for aligners since who knows whose aligners you will receive. I also found out later they seem to be the same scam company that went bankrupt after investigators found their products sometimes made people's teeth fall out, Smile Direct Club, so proceed with caution. It's not clear if they just bought that company's customers and tech and they truly are different like they claim or if they've just rebranded. They also recently rebranded from Dr Direct Retainers and many of their instructions and suppport emails still mentions the wrong company name, so that makes me think they are just the same company rebranding over and over after negative feedback to escape it.

The fact that this company sends impression kits means that your treatment will be inconsistent. The proper way is to get an intraoral scan and send it in. These guys affiliate with smile direct club whom have left customers mid treatment due to law suits. STAY AWAY from this company and use BYTE.

I advise anyone that’s utilizing smile…

I advise anyone that’s utilizing smile set, to urgently reconsider. This is the company that was once SmileDirectClub they just reopened under another name. They were investigated years ago due to their scamming tactics, which is why their previous business SDC ultimately failed and they had to foul chapter 11 bankruptcy with smile. I wouldn’t be surprised if this business failed again as they are still the same business they just opened up under a new name. Save your money people and go see a real orthodontist.
