Breach of guidelines
¡AVOID! ¡AVOID! ¡AVOID!
Great sales pitch. Smooth pickup. Then total radio silence.
Once they had my money and all my belongings, delivery promises meant nothing. Missed delivery windows, daily calls, zero answers, and a constant “dispatch will reach out” lie that never happened.
Customer service admitted they don’t know when my stuff will arrive and don’t care because they’re protected by the 30-day rule.
If you enjoy being powerless while a company holds everything you own, this is your mover.
I had to relocate some big home
I had to relocate some big home appliances to my new condo, and I was a bit nervous about the tight doorway. The team measured first and moved it all without scraping the walls. They also helped reconnect the washer at the new place, which saved me a headache later. The whole job took less time than expected, and it felt handled well.
WHEN SOMETHING GOES WRONG THEY CARE
Edited Dec 16, 2025. WOW, I must say this company moves quick! After my initial review, they opened an investigation because no one could tell me where my items were even though they were not in transit yet. I'm happy to report that they are on their way and the company is even compensating me for our trouble. I'm just thrilled that our items are on their way from FL to MA.

Hell will freeze over
Hell will freeze over before I ever use this criminal enterprise again. I retained Safeway to move me from Florida to Kentucky. The initial quote (Andrew) was purposely low-balled but I didn't discover that until it was too late to cancel the move. I was up-charged at final inventory by TWICE the amount of the original quote (Carmen). I was up-charged again on the day of delivery and threatened that my goods would be driven to some place in New Jersey if I didn't cover the up-charge. Of course I paid because what are you supposed to do? The supervisors at pickup and drop-off are Russian. They do not listen to nor want to deal with females. Apparently we are still second (third? fourth?) class citizens to them. Their rudeness was breathtaking. The company does not communicate at all unless they want to impart information to you (like your move will now cost you...). The customer service phone line people are friendly and help not at all. I spent 4 weeks in a completely empty apartment before I was called about delivery. This despite numerous phone calls and emails to them (Maria) (and see reference to customer service line above). They are supposed to call 48 hours before delivery. I was called at 7:30 pm on a Friday night for an 11:00 am Saturday delivery. That's right - not even a 24 hour notice. They care about taking your money. Period. To describe my experience with this company as horrible and hugely stressful is an understatement. Yes, there were things broken. No, I didn't put in a claim. The very last thing I wanted was to deal with these criminals ever again. No thank you. Literally use anyone else.
Do not use this company.
I could write a book about this terrible experience. Oh, Safweway got our things to us, alright, at twice the price and broken in pieces. Every box I opened I cried. They claim to be this renowned and respected firm and they send you to a customer service deck in the Phillipines and show up at your door with a Penske truck. I was assured "Oh no, we are not brokers." The men who moved our things in pretty much threw our stuff, bashed a hole in our door and they made off with a 500.00 extension ladder. They would not let me inspect my stuff and demanded cash before they even unloaded and I could see it. They took total advantage of us and after the move, they disappear. Most companies, even Wayfair often ask how your delivery experience was, or thank you for the thousands of dollars in business you just gave them. They say you are "insured" but this so called claim company gets terrible reviews as well, I am trying to get a claim together, but I am pretty sure that it will be ignored. I look at the historic stained glass window that they broke, and the one of a kind folk art that was destroyed and all I can say with all of my heart is DO NOT use this company. Seek other alternatives, moving is hard enough and there are so many predatory rip offs out there who are just waiting to take advantage of us. We got ripped off, folks. Don't let it be you.
My rented unit was closing…
My rented unit was closing unexpectedly, so I had to move 20 boxes and some fragile items to a new place. The movers asked how I wanted things moved, and they carried each box carefully. They worked through narrow hallways without bumping anything and kept me informed while loading and unloading. By the time the move was done, I was able to put the boxes in the right spots.

How does a $6K move turn into $11K?
How does a $6K move turn into an $11K move?
I spoke to the sales rep, explained how I had two garages of furniture temporarily stored at a family member's house after I sold my home. The move was supposed to be a dedicated truck. It wasn't. It was 1 of 3 loads. The driver convinced my spouse to agree to pay an additional $1K to take things that were already on my inventory list. They didn't care about that, only cubic feet. My stuff took a tour of the country for nearly 2 weeks. The driver texted the say before delivery (Sunday) and said if I wanted my stuff, I had to pay another $1K shuttle fee because they cant get the truck down my road and turn it around. They could, but I explained the challenges in the beginning and expected that to be part of the estimate. When calling customer service, I always got "let me check into that and I'll call you back". Try never called. I got emails in the middle of the night from someone else who didn't really answer the questions I had. I was always chasing people down. NEVER, EVER USE SAFEWAY. They will nickel and dime you to death, holding your possessions hostage until you pay up.
Peace of Mind Move
I was nervous about my long-distance relocation, but Safeway Moving Systems eased all my worries. Their transparency, GPS tracking, and detailed inventory system gave me total confidence throughout the process.
Excellent Packing Service
The packing crew handled my fragile items with extra care. Everything was wrapped securely, and not a single item was damaged. Their barcode inventory system made unpacking incredibly easy and stress-free.
Stress-Free Relocation
Safeway Moving Systems turned my stressful move into a smooth experience. Their team was professional, efficient, and courteous. With GPS tracking and a barcode system, I always knew my items were safe.
The Worst Move in the Last 13
I don’t normally write negative reviews especially long ones, because I believe most companies try to satisfy customers and want to correct problems when they are pointed out. Unfortunately for customers, Safeway Moving doesn’t fall into that category.
Probably the first problem for the customer is their apparent business model. They promise a lot with estimated prices that will almost always be significantly below what the customer will receive from major van lines, like Untied, Mayflower, North American, etc. They take a 30% down payment on the quotation when the customer agrees, (credit card is fine). When they come to pick up the furniture and household goods, they want another 50% of the balance, except for two things: they will add to the estimated cost for anything that somehow didn’t get included in the original estimate, and they also add 3% for paying by credit card (not on the original down payment) and that is not disclosed until furniture is packed and payment is due.
The sales person doing the estimate will state that their while contract says that they aren’t required to deliver for 16 days they assure the customer delivery typically takes less than 10 days. On cross country re-locations where another house is being purchased, this may sound like a good deal because one would not want furniture and household goods to be delivered before a house closing had been consummated. Less than 10 days almost never happens. When the household goods are picked up, Safeway transfers and unloads them into a warehouse, (usually in New Jersey) to await a moving van with other customers moving in that direction. The customers goods are loaded onto a truck, unloaded into a warehouse, loaded onto another van and unloaded at the customer’s destination. The opportunity for damage is high, as will be shown in the pictures I will include in this review. Prior reviews by others indicate that Safeway is very reluctant to pay for damages, rather encouraging customers to obtain insurance from like minded insurance companies who resist paying for damages to customers.
Another undisclosed item at household goods loading is that the final 50% of the balance has to be paid in cash, cashiers check or money order. At this time all the customer’s goods are on a truck. A re-locating customer arriving in a new city/location, will generally not have a bank account or relationship that will enable them to obtain a cashiers check, which means they have to bring the money or check with them when they leave their original location. Without it they can not receive their goods.
The customer who thinks about using this company should think hard about the economics involved. The original quote is nearly useless because of add-ons that will inevitably become part of the payment, and the amount of time one has to pay for a motel and take-out food while waiting for delivery of their household goods. I have found the money spent on motels, restaurant food for the days waiting for my household goods to be delivered would have easily closed the gap in the cost of using a major van line. Lastly, the amount of damage your furniture will experience can never be recovered, even by a company willing to do so. I selected this company not because of price but because they have an A+ rating, which I still can’t believe were based on reviews that weren’t AI generated. I will not hesitate to let anyone know that this is the worst moving company anyone can experience and I have moved cross-country and overseas 13 times with different movers.
BEWARE OF SAFEWAY MOVING INC
SAFEWAY MOVING INC. picked up my belongings from my storage room at Public Storage in Davie, FL on August 5, 2025. They asked me what was my earliest delivery date to which I replied "August 19, 2025." I have heard NOTHING from these people since August 5th. I have called several times to get a delivery date in Orange, CA. They have yet to give me a delivery date. It is the strangest and most frustrating moving experience of my life. When am I going to see my belongings again? This is fraud of the worst kind. I am a 77 year old woman. This is horrible. DON'T DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. I have emailed the company President Boris Svirsky and there has been NO RESPONSE. 😲
I wouldn't recommend.
The initial contact was good and the quote was reasonable. I gave a detailed atccount of what my apartment contained and was stunned on moving day it was double. The movers showed up 1 1/2 days early and appeared to be a subcontractor using an old uhaul and trailer. My items were transferred to a semi in Chicago and not sure where they were kept in between because numerous items were soaking wet at the final destination and multiple items were broken. The mover broke one leg of my couch also. Communication was sketchy after initial contact. I wanted to file an insurance claim, but the process was unbelievably difficult. I would not recommend this company.
WARNING/PSA: DO NOT USE THESE GUYS - Unresponsive and Unprofessional - Prepare to Receive Your Things Months Later
Currently using them for my move and it's been over a week and complete radio silence. Once you give them your things they do not return calls or emails and it could be months before you receive your things (if ever).
Update #1 8/22/25: Called and they have no idea where my items are or what the status of my move is. I will be initiating a BBB complaint, initiating a credit card dispute, and suing them. I am an attorney and the fact that this company just takes your items and then you never hear back, never get an update, and they are clueless as to where your items are - is unacceptable regardless of what contractual terms they think protect them. I will be seeing them in court.
Bait-and-Switch
Bait-and-Switch, Hidden Fees, and a 49% Upsell — Avoid Safeway Moving!
My experience with Safeway Moving, and specifically Richard, was deeply disappointing and frankly predatory. I submitted a fully itemized list of items along with a Google photo album in advance. Richard ignored both, gave me a lowball quote, and assured me of “full service.” That quote? $3,422.
When moving day came, everything changed. The promised full-service support vanished, and I was blindsided with a 49% upcharge—raising my total to $5,107. One of the movers spent nearly four hours on his iPad instead of helping. Only later did I realize I was being billed during that exact period—most likely while they prepared the inflated invoice.
To make matters worse, I was told that if I didn’t accept the new charges, 25% of my items wouldn’t be moved. I was placed under clear duress, with no real choice but to comply. It felt like extortion during one of the most vulnerable moments a customer can face.
Safeway Moving’s business model seems to be this:
Ignore all documentation
Underquote to lock you in
Spring a massive upcharge on moving day
Threaten to leave your belongings unless you pay
Then call it “policy”
This wasn’t just a bad service—it was a calculated setup.
If you care about transparency, fair pricing, or being treated with basic respect, avoid Safeway Moving and Richard at all costs.
Never use this company
Never use this company. At the surface they seem to have good reviews - all paid for I think once you dive into less common sites you see the terrible reviews and horror stories. They are very friendly at first and give you a lower than expected quote and say if you don’t end up moving certain items we’ll reduce the estimate according. Once you sign and give deposit they become rude and nasty. They won’t confirm an exact pick up date without paying $300 extra. They say they are allowed a 5 day pick up window and a 15 day delivery window. When you tell them you are moving fewer items they say you already have the lowest rate. Then they ghost you a few days ahead of the week of delivery. We cancelled and worked with bank to get estimate back because we read reviews saying they hijack your stuff for 1-3 months and demand nearly double the estimate to get your stuff back.
