After being referred by my GP to Mount Stuart (Torbay) I expected a bit more selected service than I would have by going NHS. It was an absolute disaster. I can categorically say now they are only int... See more

Tees Valley Middlesbrough
First experience with this hospital. Always been more than happy with NHS James Cook hospital.
Initial consultation- very quick, felt rushed, little explanation. Later had to call them back to get details which were not clarified face to face.
Arrived for my appt this morning:
No parking spaces - had to park on drive
Atrium full with minimal seating available
My appointment had been cancelled with no prior phone call
Had to go through the earlier procedure of an enema and starving- total waste of time and very stressful
Although receptionist was very pleasant and apologetic there was no explanation given for cancellation
I did get a call an hour later rearranging the appt in Tees Valley but I would be much happier to go to James Cook.
My first experience of private healthcare has been far from positive.

The Dutch hospital management and staff all paid great attention to detail, excellent care, the ambience and manner ,also air quality much as a five star hotel, spot on.Even the coffee served was excellent quality.High quality buscuits and sandwiches available .I was a day patient NHS.The important issue the medical care I received was also first class. To all at Dutchy ,I think you have something to be proud of.

I’ve just had an mri scan at Ramsey Healthcare Fulwood Hall Hospital and it was an excellent service.
From the receptionist Susan that quickly found my details and checked me in, very polite.
The gentlemen that looked after me were Steve & Faiz.
Faiz made sure I understood everything and went through the paperwork with me and put me at ease which helped me relax during the scan.
Steve then took over, the first thing he said was that the knee was very swelled, which was a total relief! as I’d seen several doctors and emergency doctors no one bringing it to my attention. A physio did mention it though blamed it on my knee support !
Steve was very good and excellent at what he does. He was very supportive.
I would like to say a very big thank you to you both 👍

They give you a telephone number to call if things aren’t right after an operation! They do not pick up the phone and this just cuts off after so long. They say the care continues after you have been discharged!
This isn’t the case.

Poor HR, not an equal opportunities employer, poor pay even compared to NHS pay. Don’t bother wasting your time applying for a job here.
Following my last week’s bowel operation, it’s proving impossible to contact anyone at Woodthorpe Hospital, Nottingham and they ignore all messages left on their answer machines. This is worrying and potentially dangerous.
What a contrast to my experience of the excellent Spire Hospital in Leicester.
Good consultant meeting. However it apparently takes Ramsay Healthcare 3 weeks to write a letter to my own GP with the consultants findings which my doctor has been waiting for. If it takes them 3 weeks to write a simple letter need I say more about what service of healthcare will be provided? Disappointed.....
Got an appointment at this hospital after explaing my condition and the specialist agreeing to see me, but i wrote this email before visiting discussing my problem, Response from them is below:
As discussed, my primary concern is trying to find a cardiologist who is willing to try to establish what may be wrong with me and not just send me on my way after an initial consultation and a few tests.
As I mentioned I am suffering from severe pins & needles, have the outline condition I have been diagnosed with and am now having bouts of dizziness bought on by high blood pressure.
It maybe that I have a neurological issue also, who knows? But I do not want to find out what is truly wrong with me when it is too late….
Can you please pass this on to the cardiologist and still see if he is willing to help me get to the bottom of what is wrong with me.
Response from Ramsay Health:
Good morning Mr *****,
Thank you for your email which I forwarded to Dr ***** as requested.
Dr **** has responded and, unfortunately, does not feel he will be able to assist you at this time. As your appointment would be for a second opinion he would be unable to undertake this in the time schedule available. Dr **** has suggested that you get an NHS referral to either Russells Hall Hospital or another provider.
I am so sorry that we are unable to help you at this time and have, subsequently, cancelled the appointment on **th April 2023.
Good luck with your endeavours to get your situation and concerns sorted.

I had arthroscopy on my knee yesterday at Woodland hospital in Kettering. My care from the minute I walked in to the hospital was first class. The anaesthetist was caring and understood my fear of needles. The physio man carefully explained about post op care.Thank you to all the staff that took care of me, especially Jane, you made a daunting procedure a lot more pleasant. I’m an NHS patient but I couldn’t have received better treatment if I’d have been a private one..
The consultant was patronising. Spoke to me as if I were 5 years old. Was in and out in 5 minutes. Referred by NHS for non critical treatment. I'll wait for the NHS as far more compassionate treatment.
I was recommended to see Miss Lone in Truro by another gynaecologist. She has no receptionist, very rude and I received short sentences by email and text. I called the number on the website to book in and received a text message that said “text”! She would not speak over the phone and would only speak if I paid for a formal consultation. After complaining I was told she did this as we had a “lack of patient clinical relationship”! That’s because Miss Lone has no communication skills and sadly I felt she just wanted money. I wanted to speak briefly just to make sure that the issues I had were something she could treat as other consultants had said no and what was included in the initial consultation. Other consultants who I contacted did have receptionist who could not of been kinder and more helpful when I spoke to them. I sadly experienced none of this from the Ramsay group or Miss Lone.

Sultan Hassan you are the worst ever surgeon. You don't care about your patients and you you only care about money. I came to you for some fat grafting but what you did was the most evil thing. You did liposuction on both sides of the breasts instead without consent. You ignored everything that was on the consent form and did completely what you wanted to do. You removed all the fat from my armpits and underarms. Both my armpits are in constant pain and you have done nothing. Sultan Hassan you left a lot of fatty lumps in my shoulder and did nothing. I had to pay over £5000 to get them removed, and you have the nerve to say it's a bogus review.
I have not stopped crying since then. I will not rest until justice is done.
SULTAN HASSAN YOU KNOW THIS IS NOT A BOGUS REVIEW YOU KNOW VERY WELL WHAT YOU DID AND RUINED MY LIFE.
We were paying as private patients for a procedure. Surgery was postponed four times. On one occasion this was blamed on failed equipment. We postponed our holiday at a cost of £600 to accommodate one date, but this was also cancelled so we could have travelled. The hospital claim that failed equipment is not their fault. They also claim that they have no control over the consultant changing his list. But we signed a contract with Ramsay Healthcare who were happy to take full payment in advance, but who were then not able to honour the initial arrangement. They refuse to compensate us for multiple delays causing prolonged acute pain, and additional costs that we have incurred because of their ineptness. Poor management, poor communication but the surgery, when eventually carried out, was a great success. Would not recommend and would avoid in future if possible.
I went there as an NHS patient, as their website claims an 18 week waiting time, much shorter than the NHS, and I am in dire need of new knees.
The waiting room was packed, some people were actually waiting outside as there were no seats, and no-one was being seen on time, at one point the staff were giving out tea and apologising for the wait, some people had waited over an hour past their appointment time.
My consultant was pleasant enough, but his diagnosis was totally different to that of other specialists I have seen, based on the same set of X Rays. The subsequent letter to my GP is totally different to what I thought we'd discussed, and I was only told the waiting list was one year after I had signed the consent form, I'm sure if I hadn't asked I wouldn't have been told.
Don't bother making a complaint, they will make promises and if you push for answers they are experts at the brush-off email.
I will not be returning.
Very worst place no proper management went all the way for an appointment for my father who I poorly called day before to confirm and they said it’s on and to go today only to find the had a technical issue and they send a letter blank and I have to come all the way here to just here this what a wonderful service is that
Awful service. Cancelled a very serious health check appointment the day before and no one bothered to ring or contact me. Showed up for my appointment on time to be told it had been rearranged and someone should have called me, almost questioned as if I was lying about being contacted. Like id bother showing up to a cancelled appointment. Appointment rescheduled for a month later and now left to worry for another 4 weeks with my health concern. What’s the point of private
Do not call the numbers on their website! Was on hold for 9 minutes before I decided to hang up. Glad I did, was charged over £7 for the call!
To update (2024), I never got an apology for the varying invoices and advice but demands for extra money stopped.

Original post:
I got the outcome I wanted with staggering speed considering local doctors had fobbed me off, not just for months but several years. However, I submitted a concern about missing medical supplies during the small operation. Not under a full GA, I was aware the nurse was asked for important equipment, couldn't find it and the surgeon had to "make do".
My considered advice is about potential fees. Information from Springfield Hospital underlines the variable nature of costs but clearly invites the patient to discuss them with the consultant. This I did. I noticed a nurse was listening but when she commented, the consultant corrected her; she was not to raise the fee. She looked disapproving; I thought little of it but, after a week, someone sent me an extra invoice. This was not acceptable, because it had not been arranged and agreed.
