Good service
Competitive price, car in good condition, after-hour pickup process was smooth and convenient, and also wonderful staff who helps me to retrieve an item I left in the car to airport
Cheap, convenient, central
Cheap. Convenient. Central. Just what I need from an Auckland car rental service.
Broken contract
Omega advised us that as we were arriving at Auckland Airport after hours, our car would be left at Park N Fly and to get the shuttle there. This we did, but alas! no car was waiting. Being Sunday evening, and we are in our 80's, this was disaster. No other cars were available, so a family member drove 70kms to rescue us. Next morning Omega rang to tell us to return to collect the car. This was impossible being 70kms away and we were booked to drive further north that day, so I cancelled the booking (and we were lent a car by a friend). Then they charged us $468 cancellation fee!!! It was Omega which broke the contract, not us! Finally we have received a refund of the cancellation fee but we are still out of pocket by $AU18.50 due to exchange charges.
Lovely cars and I rate it 5 star
Check Tyres and Full Insurance Policy
Check Tyres and Full Insurance Policy
Make sure you check the insurance wording when booking online. When leaving the depot, there was a strange noise. On reflection we should have checked what it was as well as tyre pressure and condition before driving away. We had a huge hole in tyre on road 20 mins out of town. Fortunately we are AA members ourselves and AA were able to help us with a couple of recommendations to get a new tyre. We were also able to change the tyre. Note that if you call AA with Omega car hire insurance, you will pay up to $165 for them to change your tyre, along with paying for a brand new tyre. Omega don't recommend a company or support you trying to figure out the nearest tyre shop. Couple of locals stopped and Tyre guys amazing. It's a stress on first day of trip. Although Omega had every right to quote the insurance policy we'd just signed , a little empathy for our plight would have been appreciated. Drivers of shuttle both ways excellent. Apparently flat tyres common in Queenstown, due to pull over areas and so much construction going on.
Best staff i ever came across
Best staff i ever came across, i wanted to rent a car and they helped in the entire process.
Up front & honest-I don't think so!
I selected Omega Rental Car as our supplier for a South Island tour with some friends from Indonesia.
Their initial price appeared competitive for a hybrid station wagon, but because our pickup & drop off times were outside normal office hours they added extra charges amounting to over $100 to the contract when they sent it! That seemed a lot for a return shuttle journey to the Aeropark where they left the car which was close by the airport? However we were committed at this stage, so continued by signing & paying for the booking in good faith, also attaching a note that we were expecting a Toyota hybrid Station Wagon as the requested vehicle.
However when I collected the car (around midnight after a long day), I was very tired & did not realise that it was just an ordinary petrol powered Toyota SW. It was later the next day when we were a long way from the pickup point that I realised that I had not been supplied with my requested vehicle, so too late to return it as we were on a very tight schedule.
Of course our petrol bill for the trip was substantially higher than we were expecting, but we had no other options available at that time.
When I returned the vehicle it was also A/H's, so no Omega personnel there to discuss the issue with. As soon as I got home in Auckland I emailed them with my complaint, but the only explanation I got was - quote "we have never advertised a Premium Elite Hybrid station wagon on our website .
You did however put a request in the notes, but as we do not have these, the booking was confirmed as per our website for a 1800cc Premium Elite Station wagon.
This is all on the confirmation we sent you on the 09/03 , if there was a problem it should have been questioned then.
Feed back is important to us and you are welcome to leave a review. In this instance we have done nothing wrong and will respond accordingly.'
The hybrid vehicle was definitely what I booked on their website, however as you can see they deny that, and were not prepared to compromise in any way despite admitting that was what I requested.
I am in the hospitality travel industry and have dealt with international travellers for may years. Our company makes every effort to deal with complaints & misunderstandings in an 'upfront & honest' way, and our customers have always appreciated that, and as a result return to us time & time again.
Omega do not seem to appreciate that simple marketing guideline, but instead concentrate their efforts on extracting every $ they can by somewhat underhand methods.
I will definitely never use them again, and will recommend that to all our faithful clientele, and any who read his revue!

Very attentive and helpful staff
The pick up is quite a walk from international arrival. That is not Omega’s fault, it is Christchurch Airport.
After the pickup, everything went super smooth: registration was very easy. We received quite a new car. The staff helped us starting up Apple Car. Without them we would have been lost. When leaving alarms went off. We returned and the staff immediately identified the problem: we had put luggage on the back seat without closing the rear passenger seat belt.
Problem free travel.
Highly recommended
50th wedding anniversary trip…
For our 50th wedding anniversary trip we hired a little Corolla from Omega for 25 days. We were greeted by the cheery manager who made us feel most welcome. The vehicle had quite a few little spots and marks on the outside but was spotlessly clean on the inside. Most importantly, it was in tip-top mechanical condition and we had no issues at all. Highly recommended
Check your car thoroughly for basic safety
I rented a car for six weeks from Auckland CBD Omega Car Rental NZ at the time of pick up they could not find a cover for the luggage area, and I asked about the tire safety. They reassured me the tires were just fine. Within three days one was running low, so I stopped in at a national tire chain with excellent customer reviews and was told that one of my tires was absolutely unsafe to be driving on and should not have been rented out. I’m currently losing a day of travel and the company rearrange their schedule to fit me in immediately. That’s after it took almost a half hour to get approval from Omega Car Rental NZ to get the wheel alignment and replacement tire approved. While I had agreed for an older vehicle, I did not realize that meant no rearview camera, no ability to connect my phone to the speaker system, a hub cap held on by zip/cable ties, no luggage cover and squealing brakes. This is very different than my experience at the Christchurch outlet.
Follow-up: After having lost half a day of touring New Zealand’s Northlands, I received a phone call response to my email, and Omega has offered me a free upgrade to a premium hybrid, if I don’t mind detouring to the AKL airport centre.
Rented a YARIS CROSS for 3 wks from…
Rented a YARIS CROSS for 3 wks from Christchurch to Auckland Airport. Vehicle was in excellent condition with ideal performance for New Zealand’s varied road surfaces. Collection and drop off from Omega was excellent, very professional inc booking of the ferry. Recommend taking gold cover with 0 excess which includes windscreen protection an absolute necessary given the condition of the roads.
5 stars is not a high enough rating
5 stars is not a high enough rating. Kelvin at Christchurch was fun, thoughtful and amazing at helping us out when our car was booked to be returned to the wrong place, during a very busy period when most places were booked out.
He juggled things around to make it work and we even got an upgrade in the process.
We can't thank him enough.
Scam alert.
Scam alert.
Be aware you'll be quoted one price by the van driver and then told its a higher price when you get to the office. I advise avoiding this company or at minimum lock in a price with the office, preferably in writing, before being taken to the office. The driver was insistent it was an innocent mistake because she was hard of hearing. Make of that what you will.

Auckland City Rentals
We booked for a car in Auckland City.
The lady wanted me to sign the form that I had inspected the car -before she let me inspect the car and I kept telling her I haven't seen it yet but she kept trying to get me to sign it beforehand.
And the other sales guy at the counter said I should have paid for the gold insurance (I paid for the silver one) because cars always come back with 'a chip'.
When I inspected the car to mark off all the imperfections, it had sooo many small dents, horrible gutter rashes, and scatches and multiple window chips. The car worked well though.
I was nervous that the company might blame me for one of the marks left when I didn't do it - due to the way the staff were acting.
Luckily I returned it and they didn't charge me when we returned it to the airport.
Website says no problem cancellation, not if you let them swipe your card in office…then they would only give me a voucher!!
We went into their little office across from Lopesan resort in Meloneras, Gran Canaria where we were staying, to rent a car for an upcoming day. They swiped my card, assuming as places do for a reservation. We changed our mind because the places we wanted to see that day would be closed (holiday), so I emailed to cancel. Their website says clearly, “cancel ANYTIME” no problem, no payment needed in advance. I never got a response email so I visited their office on my way to the airport. Ah yes, he had been waiting to hear from me and had emailed me (must have typed my email wrong because I had nothing, not even in junk). He can’t refund me because I PAID in office and I could get a voucher to use anytime in the next year. I’m not coming back, don’t want a voucher, refund me! Nope, sorry, policy is voucher. He even called his supervisor to check again. So if I had just reserved it online I could have cancelled but because they got to swipe my card, they steal my money. I have filed a complaint with my bank and will get my money back, but I promised the man I would write reviews wherever I could to warn other people about their scam and he wasn’t so happy! So be warned!
Excellent
Had a really great experience with this company. No issues at all. Loved the car. Thank you!
The service both online and in person…
The service both online and in person was faultless and fast. The car older but zippy and jst what we needed. Price excellent.
We had to change our plans while on holiday and a reimbursement was not a problem.
Highly recommend.
Good car at a reliable price
Good car at a reliable price. Nice staff, quick procedure. Maybe the nicest location due to its natural beauty to rent a car.
Don't arrive "After Hours"!
We did not realise that after ticking "pick up Queenstown Airport" would cost a $50 taxi ride as the depot is not actually at the airport, and our arrival was "after hours". You would think as Queenstown is basically a tourist destination that a flight arriving before 5pm on a weekday would not be classed as after hours.
