I love meetup but.... It is not like it use to be by no means. One big issue, is trolls pop into meetings. They masturbate, they show up nude or they just are in there to cause trouble. Many... See more

I'm an organizer. While it works, it's not the best. For example, when I had an iPhone, the app would time out 50% of the time, which made it pretty much useless. No problem on Android or the web... See more

Horrible experience.

Horrible experience.
I've been using it for a few years, and when they doubled their prices, tried to quit it: I still got charged, and they couldn't issue a full refund (still fighting with them to get it...)
Stay away of this platform.

Do not waste your time with Meetup. They're not ready...

My experience with the meetup app for iphone was the worst ever. I paid $125.29 in order to list events but it has been a time-consuming nightmare with virtually no results. After many hours of struggling plus emails back and forth with their tech support for which I only received canned responses which were copies of information already on their website that did not address the problems my clients and I were having, I quit. Although things seemed to work somewhat on my computer, most people these days use their phones. They also messed up my logo which I had to follow instructions to squish pixels in order to fit into the spot they have for that and no fix for that was offered. It's awful to be diminished in this way... My recommendation would be to not use Meetup. They're not technically ready to offer the service that they're charging for.

greedy, bad company

I live in Munich and for the second time I showed up for the scheduled meetup, but the host didn't. just a huge waste of time. plus the organizers that actually do their job complain about rising prices.

Unstable app, customer service non-existent

Customer service is poorly run by Bots that generate scripted, useless "solutions." A simple password reset requires filling out an online questionnaire and upon completion of submitting form, they still can't provide a reset.
The Organizer fees and App fees have substantially increased while the quality of product and customer service decreased.

The platform is inconsistent, routinely receive error messages. At times the app closes down completely due to a "bug" per error message notation.
When reviewing upcoming events, the site often shows "Happening Today" when in reality, the event is scheduled for a different day, NOT "today."

not user friendly

The site is slow and sometimes fails to display events, even in the groups you have joined. There is no way to contact them for help on the site.
frustrating site to use

Meetup used to be good

I just got a message from Meetup inviting me to become the organiser of a group that never held a meeting, for a large monthly fee, and claiming to be from the previous organiser. This is how digital platforms get attention by cheating in order to promote their products and steal our time.
Meetup used to be good before they monetised it. There were plenty of groups and it really helped different kinds of people to meet each other without money changing hands.
Since the organisers now have to pay quite high fees, there are fewer of those type of Meetups appearing on the site and it has become dominated by business, AI and wellness. Meetup was supposed to expand activities but is diminishing them instead.

Poor

I've been a group organiser for 12 years , price at the beginning was reasonable, now it's 4 times more , my members say they dont get notifications for events, they keep getting asked to join meet up plus ,
You can't see who has put their name down for events, unless you pay .
Its a real shame that im closing my groups due to price and members not happy about how the site now works.
Don't get involved with meetup , the new owners only care about getting as much money of you as possible

Scammy, Unethical Billing — No Account, No Access, Still Charged Monthly

I was charged monthly by Meetup for a subscription I didn’t have access to — no login, no group memberships, no active account, and absolutely no way to cancel. Their support system is a joke: you can’t even contact a human unless you're logged in (which I couldn’t do because I didn’t have an account!).

I contacted their team with a detailed complaint and even sent them a video showing how impossible it was to cancel. They responded with copy-paste help articles that required — you guessed it — an account to access.

The only way I stopped the charges was by filing a dispute with my bank, which thankfully refunded me. Meetup never acknowledged the issue or offered a refund themselves.

This is a predatory billing model that traps people with no exit and zero accountability. Absolutely disgusting business practice.

Avoid Meetup at all costs unless you want to spend months trying to undo charges for something you never agreed to.

Was great, they broke it

Was great, they broke it.

Used to be your default screen was your groups, now it is suggested groups.

Used to be your suggested groups matched you. Now it seems to be sponsored results or something?

Used to be affordable to run a group, now it's around $300 a year to run a group.

Used to be that you could just use the app, now it bothers you every screen change with subscription plans

Used to be you could talk to members in the same group. Now it charges for that as well.

I have never seen anything go from amazing to trash so quickly

Unsafe platform that protects abusive…

Unsafe platform that protects abusive organizers

I attended a Meetup group advertised as inclusive and respectful. After the event, the organizer verbally attacked me with personal insults and hostility. When the abuse was reported anonymously, the group retaliated, smeared the reporter, and deleted evidence. Meetup took no action—even when clear documentation was offered. The platform does not protect members from organizer abuse and enables toxic group dynamics under a false banner of “community.” Not safe, not accountable.

Worst kind of company

Good for building a meetup community because everyone’s on there. Pretty awful for everything else considering the extortionate costs. Clearly don’t care about their customers at all. Aggressive marketing to make people sign up for Pro. Worst customer service ever. Buggy app and website. Unintuitive interface. I need to find a way to move my group somewhere else without losing any in the process

If you could give zero starts I would

If you could give zero starts I would. Money grubbing organization. They now want to charge to see other members in your groups. Not just charge but $4.99 a week over $20 a month just to see members in your own groups. Most streaming applications are cheaper!

Ruined a great concept, bringing people together. Just like Couch-Surfing, business people moved in to make a quick profit and destroyed it.

RUN AWAY!!!!

The platform is unstable, uploading and editing events is time consuming and the site is glitchy- both the ap and the desktop versions. And due to some bizarre error all of my network and upcoming events were deleted and cannot be retrieved. Customer service is COMPLETELY USELESS!!! Apparently they are unable to provide refunds when they make a mistake. Furious. Do not recommend.
