I I’m very disappointed with my recent…

I I’m very disappointed with my recent order from Marley Spoon. Unfortunately, I only received part of my delivery, and several ingredients were missing. This completely defeats the purpose of using a meal kit service, which is supposed to save me from having to go to the grocery store.

It seems like they are having issues with deliveries and full order fulfillment. Missing ingredients make the service unreliable, and it caused unnecessary stress trying to figure out how to complete the meals.

At this point, I’m not sure I would consider ordering from them again unless they improve their delivery accuracy and quality control.

Absolute Worst

Not ONE of my boxes arrived without an issue. My produce was frequently bad/wilted/rotten and I had several raw meat packages that were leaking/open. Its a shame because I liked the recipes. But given the recurring issues (including my last box just not even arriving), I have cancelled my account and will absolutely NOT be ordering again. Not only did I have many issues, but the "fixes" and reimbursement for meals that were not able to be completed due to missing or rotten ingredients were completely inadequate. The entire meal should have been reimbursed if a major ingredient is missing. Absolute waste of money and it was incredibly difficult to utilize electronic means to report and receive appropriate compensation (many times there was no communication or resolution after reporting an issue).

Receiving boxes with spoiled or wilted produce, leaking raw meat packages, and even a box that didn’t arrive at all is absolutely not the standard we aim to deliver. I completely understand how frustrating this must have been, especially when the compensation and reporting process felt inadequate and difficult. That’s not the experience we want any customer to have.

Here at Marley Spoon, we compensate customers for mishaps with their boxes on an ingredient basis. This is because we are unable to send replacement ingredients, so the customer might have to acquire the ingredients affected.

Please know that we do take into consideration the ingredients’ quantity and their average market value, plus the inconvenience of having to procure any ingredient oneself. In any case, if you ever purchase a replacement, and it's more than the compensation provided, you can always save the receipt and send it through to our team. This will not only ensure that you are properly compensated, but also will assist our team to improve our processes.

I do understand your disappointment and we really appreciate your feedback. I have passed your comments on to our internal teams for evaluation, as we are always looking to improve our processes.

There are normally 2 ways that this problem could have happened, either you made changes to the recipes but neglected to click save at the end, which reverts back to what it was, or you made changes to the plan after editing, where a message shows up advising you to review the order, as it could have been regenerated due to the changes.

I searched vegetarian home meal…

I searched vegetarian home meal options, and Marley Spoon came up to the top. I clicked on their site, and they required that I enter my cc info before I could see their menu options. I entered it for a $0.00 charge and right away had a bag that was auto-populated with steak, chicken, etc... not vegetarian. I tried four times to clear the cart and enter vegetarian meals, and each time the screen would jump around and it would revert back to the steak, chicken, etc. I canceled the service right away (no more than 5 minutes after I signed up), and it told me that it would cancel after the first delivery, but for now I was going to have to get the meat-heavy meals. What the??? I contacted customer service right away and it said "we're experiencing high customer volumes and we'll get back with you in 72 hours," meanwhile it said that this meal will be shipped out in 24 hours. What a scam of a company!

As you can always keep up to date with our current and upcoming meals at www.marleyspoon.com/menu without signing up or providing any form of payment information, when you do click to accept the first order and account creation, at the stage where you add the payment details, the first order is set in place.
It is possible to cancel your first order as long as you contact us before its billing day, as stated in our help centre and in our terms & conditions. Simply cancelling your membership will not result in the automatic cancellation of your first order.
As for the preferences, when selecting vegetarian upon creating the account, it will then only populate with vegetarian meals, but also inform you that, if you pick more than one, "You might get non-vegetarian recipes in your box due to selecting multiple preferences. You will be able to edit your box post-signup for exclusively vegetarian recipes".
Hope this clarifies what happened. If you did reach out prior to the order processing, or if any other matters have yet to have been addressed, and we apologise for any delays in response, feel free to get in touch with our lovely customer care team who will be happy to assist. Thanks in advance.

Previously, we divided all ingredients per dish into meal bags. However, we stopped doing this last year. We opted for this new method to improve the delivery of products to your home and keep the produce fresh for longer. By separating fragile items from less fragile items, we prevent damage. This does mean that you have to select the ingredients yourself and store them in the most suitable place. 

Of course, we take your feedback seriously and are looking at the impact this box has on ease of use. We are always open to suggestions for improving the box.

Delivery Hell with DPD

I was totally happy and satisfied for one and a half year, as long as they delivered with UPS. now i get my boxes with DPD and they are either damaged with broken ingredients inside or they are a day late. i already switched from Hello Fresh to Marley Spoon because of DPD. now, that they also use DPD, I guess I'm back to grocery shopping for the weekend by myself.

Meat packaging has failed twice

Meat packaging has failed twice, causing the whole box to be contaminated and sticky. Liquid from raw meat all over vegetables that are meant to be eaten raw? A recipe for food poisoning. Their customer service took about a week to even get back to me. When they did they were defensive and only issued a credit to me. I used that credit for one more try- and guess what. SAME THING- BLOOD FROM MEAT EVERYWHERE. All my other boxes have had issues too, but this is not safe. Huge waste of time, food, and my energy.

I am sorry to hear that you received the wrong ingredients in your box! That should not happen ofcourse. Hopefully you have already contacted our customer service, they are happy to help you with a sollution for this issue. 

Regarding the shelf life of our ingredients: we can only guarantee the freshness of the products for four days. This is including the day of delivery. This is because Marley Spoon works with the best suppliers who do not add chemicals to artificially extend the shelf life of the ingredients. I hope you understand.

To get the most out of your ingredients, we recommend starting your weekly cooking adventures with fish dishes that need to be consumed within 1-2 days, followed by recipes with chicken or minced meat (2-3 days), and finally vegetarian dishes (3-5 days). These days include the scheduled delivery day.

culinary treat with good filtering system for specific diets

I want to share some extra kudos and compliments on general use: the amount of Vegan and at the same time GF recipes offering is very generous. And all of them were a culinary treat!
Out of all time 99% recipies were very tasty out of year we tried so far and we are foodies :))
and that your ingredients are good quality, some of them are bio, option to choose bio meat is nice too. clearly money spend on quality of the product, not on ads & marketing.
I also find app way easier to use - you have dietary checkmarks and nice filtering system.
and that the design /branding - maybe its not the most 'contemporary' or 'trendy' but its super easy to navigate, and use and has good level of refinement.

Yes all this things I took for granted and wanted to 'try' with discount your competit0r, but cancelled it at the point of selecting recipes - flashy designs, okish looking recipies but no choice or inspiration for when you also following a certain diet.

(PS: I miss little onion mascot ;))

When I started the pricing for quantity…

When I started the pricing for quantity and type of ingredients made Marley Spoon with it over all the other box meal places. Now, it's not worth it. Everytime I have to buy more ingredients from the store. Also, if you don't choose they send you 2 meatless meals with fake meat. My family doesn't like them fake meat. We cancelled our service

They actually listen 😲

I've been subscribed to MarleySpoon for about 3 years.

This is a company that has nailed customer service. They actually use the feedback they solicit, AND feedback unsolicited. I thought it was coincidence the first 2–3 times I noticed changes I'd suggested, and then the fourth time, it was too specific to have been anyone else (perhaps other people had provided feedback on the issue, but MarleySpoon implemented the solution I suggested). And then it keeps happening.

Also, I really like that when I contact customer service, I get the same people (ex Dimitri is great and even follows up).

In terms of the general product/service, it's great. The food is fresh, and almost always better than what I can get in the shop. At least once a month, a recipe is stellar, and the rest are pretty dependable.

I cannot think of a better experience I've had in recent years.

Worthless company

We were supposed to get our delivery for the weekend on Friday (23-08-2024) but Marley Spoon canceled on us last minute so we had to go shopping after work since we wouldn't have anything to eat otherwise. Then they had the audacity to give us a VOUCHER instead of a refund even though we already canceled our subscription (this box should have been our last delivery), basically forcing us to still use their service. No replies to emails/calls whatsoever to get our money back. Then out of nowhere they deliver today (Monday, 26-08-2024) even though we don't need it anymore without talking to us. The kicker? The box arrives SOAKING WET. EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE MEAT, EGGS, VEGETABLES, ETC. FROZEN. Do you know what happens to frozen vegetables? Yes, they become disgusting, soggy and unusable. 45 Euros wasted.

Btw Marley Spoon: It is against the EU consumer laws to deny customers a refund and just hand them out a voucher in cases where YOU failed to deliver a service. We want our money back.

EDIT, 3rd October 2024: We managed to contact Marley Spoon's customer service and were promised a full refund in a week. Over a month passed and still have not received anything. We are contacting them again now.

We always offer a credit to your Marley Spoon account first, as this can be automatically deducted immediately from the price for your next box with us, and is smoother and faster than a refund to your payment method. Beware these guys are cunning and…

Beware these guys are cunning and relentless!

Firstly to see their menus you need to put your credit card in. I was shopping around for this type of service, and although I promptly exited the site after reviewing the recipes, it automatically signed me up to a reoccurring order.

Now here is the catch…. Once you receive your first order, by the time this is delivered your second order is locked in! So if you receive it and decide to cancel you still have an other order on its way, even if you haven’t selected the items it will have preselected it for you! -below they have said you have a day to change the order, this wasn’t the case. My first order arrived on a Sunday morning and my second one on a Saturday morning - interesting.
6 days before my second order (which went to the wrong address) I asked for a refund and they refused. It went towards my next order of items I had never selected.

We went back and forth all week. I was so shocked by their inability to assist an unhappy customer, I eventually threatened to go to the media. They didn’t back down instead sending me the fine print that I signed up for before I had even laid eyes on their product. - below they say that you sign up for a membership. There is no welcome email. In fact, when I exited without selecting my items, it sent me a -oops you forgot to finish your cart email. This email didn’t say- oops we will now select the items for you. Further they say they need payment so far in advance, however my first order they took the money out and had the order promptly on its way less than 36 hours later. I have attached a screen shot of the email I got when I exited the site the first time (I never clicked the complete order button by the way)

This company should be ashamed at their lack of integrity and willingness to accept or admit that their service is borderline predatory and filled with trickery.

Lastly, when you finally do go in to cancel your account it says that doing so will remove any existing discounts, therefore incurring additional costs on your already committed order. How rude!!!!!

When you sign up with us, you are indeed signing up for a membership. 

However, you can of course also simply view the menu for the coming weeks through our website. You do not have to provide any details for this. https://marleyspoon.nl/menu

However, when you do sign up for a membership, you have to choose a day on which your delivery will be made weekly. You can skip a delivery until 6 days before the delivery day. After that, all products are ordered from our suppliers and then your order goes into production. We always send an e-mail reminder about this 10 days before the delivery day so you can still change or cancel your order in time.

Once you have received your delivery, you then have 1 day to change the dishes on your next order or to skip the entire order. Once your box has gone into production, there is basically nothing more we can do. Otherwise we have to throw away the products that were ordered and we strive not to not waste food. 

Once you choose to end your membership, the discount will indeed expire on future orders. However, this does not apply to orders that have already gone into production and so are already committed. As previously stated, you cannot change anything once the order has gone into production, and this is also counts from our side. We cannot remove the discount from orders that are already being prepared. If you cancel your membership, you will no longer receive the orders that have not yet gone into production. Hence, the order is removed and therefore automatically the discount as well.

The fact that you are signing up for a membership is mentioned during the sign-up process. You will also find all other information in the emails you receive from us or our terms and conditions.

Nevertheless, we are sorry that you had a bad experience with our customer service. Your feedback has been passed on to the relevant department so that we can take it into account for further developments in the future.

Chef approved: Marley Spoon is best in the market. No idea why some people rate it so low.

No idea why some people rate it so low. I've tried other services (for quite a while) and Marley Spoon is hands down the best in the market.

What an AMAZING service they have created. From recipes to ingredients to delivery, everything is perfect. I love that I can track the delivery (when the delivery window shifts that is so helpful). I at least know where it is and when it might arrive, which was my biggest issue with one of their competitors (that other company even charged me delivery fees when they did not even deliver with no updates).

As a chef I love the food. Simple yet delicious recipes. As a software engineer and product manager, I love the service, product, and everything that went into creating this beautiful solution.

Would recommend it to anyone who does not want to worry about what to cook and likes tasty food.

Impossible to get out of their system

Impossible to get out of their system. Used the service for quite some time, but got bored with the lack of variation. This is the reason we cancelled. Also unsubscribed from every possible mailing or newsletter, but still unsolicited regular mail is coming. They now use unbranded envelopes so you can't see it's from them.

By just keep sending us spam, you achieved that we transitioned from being a promoter of Marley Spoon (and other meal boxes) to someone who strongly recommends friends and family NOT to order something.

I'll never order a box again

I'll never order a box again. They try to steal your money. It was hard to cancel and boxes kept on coming so I blocked de debit via my bank account. Reminders with extra cost kept on coming. Ever new box followed on the reminder so I had to pay 40€ extra cost because it was the 4th reminder but it was the 1st.

Customer service was not very useful so I just payed to be done with all the misery they gave me!

Marley Spoon are thiefs!

I started using marley spoon 100 days ago and im very satisfied. All the recepties are in dutch, which is not my language, but are very easy and simple to read for me. I have fun learning new recepties every week. I will continue to opt for marley spoon 😊
