Budget Energy seem to provide the most cost-competitive electricity in NI and their staff are very pleasant and helpful.
However, I was surprised that I couldn't access fundamental information on their website over several days to get a new tariff. I shouldn't have to chat to their nice customer service staff to do this.

Budget energy were fine until I decided to move to another provider. I received a letter saying I had to pay for leaving early which was a mistake on my part as I went about 1 week early. Then I received a letter saying if I didn’t pay they would forward to a debt collection agency. I phone budget to be told don’t worry we will take it from your final bill, so why the threatening letter. I won’t be back and neither will family or friends.

I have been with Budget Energy for some years now, and have never had any problems with them. I found the staff polite and very helpful and when I do phone the call is answered very quickly.

I was able to check online on the company's website and see what tariffs were available when my existing contract with them was up for renewal. I also checked comparison sites and found that Budget Energy were still offering the best rate for us.
I subsequently rang the company and was very quickly and easily changed onto the new fixed rate tariff after double checking tariffs eff with the agent.
Excellent customer service and to date very good supply with no issues.

f I could give zero stars, I would.
I am beyond distressed by the way Budget Energy have treated me during one of the most vulnerable periods of my life.
I am currently in Greece undergoing fertility treatment. This process is physically exhausting, emotionally overwhelming and medically sensitive. Stress is something I have been clearly advised to minimise. I explained this to Budget Energy more than once.
Despite this, I received repeated threatening emails from staff members Gareth and Paula. I informed them that this matter is formally with the Consumer Council and under complaint. Instead of allowing the process to take its course, the threats escalated.
My mother is collecting my post while I am abroad, and I then received a further extremely threatening email regarding court action, alongside a letter stating it has “come to their attention” that I am refusing entry. That statement is completely false. I am not even in the country and I have explained this multiple times.
My actual electricity usage for five months was £117, yet I am still being pursued for £10,000. This is wholly disproportionate and, in my view, contrary to fair billing and consumer protection principles. Continuing enforcement threats while a formal complaint is with the Consumer Council is unacceptable.
The mental strain this has caused me during fertility treatment is profound. At a time when I should be focusing on my health and trying to start a family, I am dealing with threatening emails and court warnings.
If this IVF cycle fails, I will always remember the unnecessary stress and pressure I was placed under during it.
This feels like harassment. Please back off and allow the formal complaints process to proceed properly.
I would strongly advise others to think very carefully before using this company.
