Pay by credit card!

Stuart Conway's company is now called Electric Bike Battery Repair for which there are no reviews or details on Companies House but he continues to use the email address for previous company, dissolved in March 2023. If you look on Companies House, you will see he has been director of multiple similar failed companies (and debts). He trades out of his personal bank account (presumably because Electric Bike World is dissolved and Electric Bike Battery Repair does not exist) and does not complete the work or hold true to his promises. [update 2/9/23] we have now thankfully received back the £595 paid him to re-cell the battery for my disabled son’s adapted bike. The repair did not work and I was asked to return the batteries before I could get a refund. It took 10 days to get the money back to my son's account and there was no communication during this period. There are no contact details on the ‘current’ company website and the telephone number he gives does not accept messages and relates to his previous business based in Bedford Place, Southampton. "The lab" used to do the re-cell is actually another company (County Battery) with whom the work is sub-contracted to. Since I had no contract with this company, it was a real leap of faith if I ever saw the money again because Stuart had my money and the company had their batteries. We were the only party at a loss. I have updated this review to reflect the fact the honourable thing was done with the return of the (all) money paid but the fact is it has been a very worrying time and we now have an empty battery case with a dismantled charger where as before we had an old battery that worked. There are not many companies that do this work but the big learning point is pay by credit card and do not under any circumstances pay by bank transfer and deal directly with a company doing the repair if you can as you have more protection that way.

Never received a refund for my item I…

Never received a refund for my item I didn’t pay for tracking sent it regular post, made an inquiry 3 weeks after about my item being not refunded and the seller blocked my e-mail and stole my money. Also all of their stuff is extremely over priced please use Amazon for any bike battery purchases or upgrades you can find the same batteries except AAA quality for half the price from hailong batteries directly on Amazon. Poor vender customer service didn’t acknowledge warranty on a faulty $600 battery purchase CAD.

Battery Re-cell disaster...

Paid £775 for a 36v 20ah battery re-cell for Mountain Sport e-bike. Extremely disappointed.

Initially, after my enquiry, customer service was great - all my e-mails and questions were responded to next day. It was a huge outlay so did a lot of research first. Was promised "the latest top quality Panasonic cells. Which cost a bit more at first, but work out cheaper in the end because they last much longer, perform better, and don’t need replacing so often."

Sent battery off with pre-paid label and battery arrived back within 10-12 days... So far, so good... Then the problems started...

1) Key switch didn't work - it was permanently on.
2) Battery indicator didn't work - no longer connected.
3) Female socket at bottom of battery was not supported anymore and went straight into battery casing when I put it on the bike. The part of the battery that should have been supporting it was in a separate jiffy bag in the parcel.
4) When I opened up the battery bottom to put in a support for the female socket, I found that all the cells were 'LGChem' and not the high quality 'Panasonic' as promised.
5) Battery performance, although marginally better than my last battery, was still not good and showing all the signs of a battery on the way out.
6) Due to the continuous power on, I started getting heavy galvanic corrosion on the male terminals on the bike. When I removed the battery, I couldn't believe the mess that it was in.

Contacted owner repeatedly by e-mail. No response.

Finally contacted by telephone. Owner said that as it was in warranty period, he would sort it out and arrange for courier same day. Said key switch would no longer work as new BMS boards do not support it.

Nothing happened - repeated e-mails and phone calls. One month later, got reply:

"I’m sorry not to have been in contact lately. I have been abroad on a ship for a month with no internet, and I’ve only just got back home to day. Living without the internet these days is a nightmare."

Gave them another chance to sort it out. Sent battery in again on 14th Feb. Waiting over a month - nothing...

Thankfully, credit card company intervened and gave full refund.

You are being dishonest

You are being dishonest. Frankly, your attitude toward this situation is despicable.

Potential customers of Electricbikeworld beware - this was a sale that was dishonoured by the manager, Stuart Conway. The response you see in Trustpilot is a cheap form of advertising at my expense.

There is one star in the 'recent experience' rating because there is no option for '0' stars - if there was I would use it!

Would definitely not recommend their battery service

I sent my battery to be refurbished with new cells, I paid £440 for this service, sent it off got it back within the week, only to find the battery wouldn’t charge, they had lost the locking plate, and it had been stuck together with mastic, as they had broken the screw lugs. On removing the battery from the bike, the end just came apart, they did apologise saying it was not good, and they would fix it, I sent it back to be repaired. They couldnhad also lost the locking plate, but said they would make a new one, 5 weeks later, and after countless phone calls, and emails, they still hadn’t even started to fix it. I got so fed up with all the excuses, I got them to refund my money, and battery. I actually used a local bike supplier, and I got a brand new battery £100 cheaper!

Unreputable Business Practices

I recently purchased a Bafang 750 watt motor from this company for my Radrover. Immediately after installing I noticed it being much louder and sounding different than the stock motor. I emailed them about that and was told that was normal. The next day the motor overheated and stopped working, in the process it also shorted out my new controller. When I emailed Vinh N. about sending the motor and controller back to be repaired less than a week after I received it, he told me that they do not guarantee anything and there are no returns. What kind of a reputable company would do business like that??? Answer: They wouldn't!!!! I am taking this matter up with the BBB, my credit card company, and any other consumer advocacy group that can set this company straight about how they need to operate if they want to do business in the US. In the meantime please take heed to this and the many other negative reviews about Electro Bike World, I wouldn't buy from a company like this that doesn't have a storefront, a phone number, or any concern at all about standing behind what they sell.

Untrustworthy and unreliable

I truly believe that this company mis-sells you a service that they cannot provide. They do not know how to communicate with customers and you hear nothing from them. All I got back was a hand-scribbled note saying - cany help you! I coach and mentor small businesses but I think these guys are a lost cause.

I was extremely impressed with the service and advice he gave me and if I do need a new battery, this is where I will come and buy it!

Had trouble with the electrics and new re-celled battery.

Had trouble with the electrics. As still 7 months of guarantee left, asked for it to be repaired. The shop in Bedford place was closed. Eventually managed to get an answer in September (When the guarantee was running out) So had to pay £50 for a botched repair.

Sent my battery to be re-celled £415.00. I was told 2-3 weeks. After 4 weeks I was told it would come.
8 weeks later after hearing excuses after excuses, I decided to ask my credit card provider to process a refund.
Still waiting.

A pity the firm was at first friendly and forthcoming.
Now nothing but promises.

Peter Crapper

Peter Crapper Having purchased a new Lifecycle Traveller at the beginning of last year 2019 and having ridden it over the last year on numerous occasions thought it was time to add a review.Having had one of these previously and rode it problem free for over six years,it was bought second hand from a friend of mine and was actually ten years old but believe it or not is still being used by one of my grandsons on his daily commute to work even now thought the battery would have given up by now but still going strong..When I wanted to buy a new one that to me was the deciding factor in returning to EBW having read loads about different folding electric bikes every time came back to the Traveller coming to the conclusion that you get what you pay for..I love the concept of this folding bike and the fact it fits easily into the boot of my car it has been to lots of places with me up till now and never let me down.Let me just add that coming from Sheffield a city built on seven hills so when you decide to come out off the town centre to most areas in this town you are cycling uphill. It says it scampers up hills effortlessly that is not quite the case in this city and surrounding Peak District but normally can get there with a few gear changes and a bit of extra leg work but I most probably test it,s endurance a bit more than most people would. Not a spring chicken anymore 74 so do need a bit of help now days and this does it nicely so for anyone who is thinking of buying one of these from my enjoyable experience with this bike don,t be afraid to purchase one of these from EBW, you may be able to buy one cheaper than this but will say what I said earlier you get what you pay for.I will close now with telling some of the mileage I have achieved on this little bike top miles 43 and battery still with three bars showing, and quite a regular 30 to 35 miles ride with no problems at all.Couple of minor things mechanical but nothing that I could not put right myself being quite alright with bike mechanics these were no problem. Thanks to Stuart and everyone else at EBW from my experience could highly recommend them and thanks to any one who takes the time to read my post cheers to all and happy cycling

Terrible Service

Terrible Service

I contacted this company 4 weeks ago asking is it possible for them to repair my cross city E-bike bat, excellent response, Stuart emailed straight back and continued so to arrange everything. I placed my order, paid and we arranged for the package to be picked up on 31st March with a 3 week turn around. By week 3 i hadn't heard anything, so emailed asking for progress...no response, My wife contacted them a couple of days later asking for any info of which the guy told her that there seems to be a problem and i should have been contacted, he assured me he would get in contact with me that day with details of what is wrong....he never did. We rang again the following day to see if we can try again for info of which we were successful, i was told the battery couldn't be repaired and i will receive a bank transfer refund and my battery arranged for return once i send my banks details over....of which i did and nothing. My wife rang again that day and he assured me that he would make sure its was done by the end of the day (Friday), come 8PM, Friday and still nothing. My Wife rang the following Monday and i received no apology for Friday, no excuse, no acknowledgement, the same guy did however tell her that the refund will be there today as he said,"I am going into the office to do it after this call". My wife re read the bank details stated on the email of which he had to go digging for and still nothing (i asked for email confirmation). I wouldn't normally be this hell bent on something, but because of the amount of times i have been fobbed off and the fact they knew there was something wrong with it earlier, this all could have been avoided. If you're looking to get back on your bike sharpish then maybe avoid this place.

Very happy with my purchase.

Very happy with my purchase of a Lifecycle Buzz bike. Very quick delivery, although there was some damage to to rear mud guard. I suspect the box was placed on its end during transit despite numerous warnings on the box to keep upright. I contacted Stuart to notify him of the damage and he immediately offered a replacement mud guard which arrived 2 days later. Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase and the level of service cannot be faulted. I have no connection to the company other than a very satisfied customer. I would not hesitate to purchase from them again or recommend them to others.

On the battery which is very detailed I chose to buy the Mountain sport.
Others came no where near in its range on full charge managed 24 miles and battery only dropped by one bar out of five so I’m impressed and would recommend, all so the guy in the shop had time to explain every thing and with two years no quibble guarantee I’ve peace of mind

A fantastic company

A fantastic company, an amazing machine. The 'Traveller' is everything I'd hoped for. A useful folder for use when on camper van trips, the ease of use both from folding and 'ebiking' was simple. I'd been a little concerned about loosing the fitness aspect but using assisted pedalling keeps the legs going without strain and if you want a bit more effort you can adjust your energy input to suit. Up hills is a dream. I now travel greater distances to shop and then no parking problem. Recently I cycled 23 miles and only used one bar out of five of stored energy. Cannot wait to register total mileage.
And Stuart, Boss man, somehow always finds time to answer questions.
Anyone feeling a bit iffy about electric bikes just have a go you'll never regret it. Have fun, have a chat with Stuart.
