Houfy.com is a great alternative to other vacation rental booking sites. You can save the big commission fees that other platforms have. It is basically an owner driven website for rentals. I had a great experience with houfy.com for a vacation and a wonderful stay.

It was easy to set up and automatic sync to Houfy from Airbnb. We need everybody to use Houfy, guests and hosts to save on ridiculous Airbnb, VRBO and Booking.com fees which are up to 18%

Mixed feelings...I was not familiar with Houfy but…
I was not familiar with Houfy but rented a house from someone that used to be in airbnb and now does Houfy. I was pleased overall with the rental process and saved money over my last reservation with them. However, we rented in May and I wanted to book again in Oct. and found that the price was over $1,000 different. More for Oct. Perhaps it is the seasonal rate, I don't know but ended up at a cheaper location on airbnb in the same area. Also, I did not like that I was asked to send an ID. We are concerned with identity theft and I do not like sending a copy of my personal ID over the internet to a site I don't really know. I did not complete the reservations because of this. Contacted the host and arranged for me to complete without the ID since we had rented from them several times. However, I did not because of increased price for the exact same property. Not sure overall that I was pleased with Houfy. Seems to have less info on homes and not that much cheaper.

On the price difference: worth knowing that Houfy doesn't set or control nightly rates. Each host sets their own pricing, including any seasonal adjustments, and we don't take a commission or add anything on top. So the jump between May and October was a call your host made for that property, not anything from our side.
On the ID request: I completely get it, and it's one of the friction points we think about most. We ask because of fraud prevention — chargeback fraud and stolen-card bookings hit hosts hard — but hosts can waive verification for repeat or trusted guests, which is exactly what yours did. Really glad they could take care of that for you.
On listing info: fair feedback. Listing depth varies a lot because each host fills in their own — some are exhaustive, others lighter. Definitely something we can do more on from our side to nudge hosts toward fuller listings.

Love the no fees
I love that the fees for the homeowner is fair and that there are no fees for the guests. The only reason why I put a four star is because I had a little bit of problem with the payment when I made it through houfy there was some sort of glitch. It made it look like it wasn't paid but it was fully paid. The host could see that it was fully paid but on my end it was confusing.

No traction
In well over a year (close to 2), I received one booking for multiple properties I have listed.
Obviously, this application has a very, very long way to go.

Houfy isn't Airbnb, and we never will be. We're built Houfy as a commission-free direct-booking layer — the model works best when hosts drive their own guests through social, repeat bookings, and their own marketing, and use Houfy to take the booking without losing 15–20% to fees. That's a different value prop than a pure demand engine, and we should probably do a better job of setting that expectation upfront.
That said, two years and one booking across multiple listings is worse than what we'd want even within that model — which usually means something fixable. If you're open to it, send me a note at info@houfy.com and I'll personally look at your listings and tell you straight what I see. We're also investing more in paid guest acquisition this year, which should help shift the picture.
