Shocking practices: Demanded more money before turning up, now withholding my deposit!
If there were a -1 star or 0 star, that is what Jo, Simon, and Building Services S & J Limited deserve. I accepted an estimate from Building Services S & J Limited and paid a £333.50 upfront deposit on a Friday, the 28th. On Sunday the 30th, before a single tool was lifted, visit, or any physical work started, they unilaterally changed the contract price and slapped me with an additional invoice for £88.53. When I immediately refused this bait-and-switch price increase and cancelled the job, they refused to refund a single penny of my money. They are now hiding behind generic "non-refundable materials" terms to pocket my cash, yet they completely refuse to provide any itemised receipts or supplier invoices to prove they actually spent my money over a weekend. To make matters worse, they had the audacity to claim I owe them an extra £22.50 for a job they never even started. This is a textbook breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 regarding unfair contract terms and excessive cancellation fees. Legal pre-action protocol has been completely ignored by their director, Jo-anne. I have now been forced and in the process of filing a formal County Court money claim to recover my money, plus court fees and statutory interest. Take your business elsewhere to a reputable trader who respects consumer law and honest pricing.

Thank you for your review. I would like to clarify the factual position for transparency.
You voluntarily accepted our quotation and paid the deposit of £333.50 on 28 August. This deposit covered non‑refundable materials and the labour reservation, as stated in the Terms & Conditions you received before payment.
You later cancelled the job. At the point of cancellation, materials had already been ordered specifically for your installation. (Cancelled one hour before appointment) Under the Terms & Conditions, these materials are non‑refundable, and cancellation fees apply. A full breakdown was provided to you, showing that the deposit covered materials, labour reservation, fuel surcharge, admin fee and cancellation fee. The final calculation showed an outstanding balance of £22.50.
No work was carried out because you cancelled before installation. No price was changed; a clarification was provided after you sent a video of your bathroom layout, which you supplied after payment. This clarification was consistent with the Terms & Conditions regarding access and additional work.
Your dispute is a civil contractual matter, not fraud. We have provided all evidence to your bank, including your acceptance of the quote, your voluntary payment, your cancellation request, and the materials ordered.
We remain committed to transparency and professionalism and are happy to provide any further clarification to you or to the appropriate authorities.

Excellent efficient service
Excellent, speedy service from Simon who removed old broken hob and fitted a new one. He rewired the power point as he wasnt happy with how the original was wired, the cost was very reasonable and he removed the original ceramic hob.
Extremely efficient, and helped me work out how to use the new one.
I can highly recommend Simons work, friendly whilst working and put everything back for me.
Will certainly use him again as he has a wide range of skills.

All work to a high standard
Nothing seems to be beyond Simon’s capabilities everything I’ve requested needed doing he has completed to a professional standard quickly and reasonably priced. He is definitely my go to person for any jobs I require.Hanging new doors, filling a gap with nice shelving in bedroom and kitchen, assembling flat packs filling gap in coving no end to his talents. Very pleased with Simons work, just finished the 6th job for me, from connecting pipework, plastering, painting and laying laminate flooring throughout---- great finish, very flexible in his work approach , easy to talk to, to accomodate my requirements.

Brilliant handyman
Simon cames to diagnose the problem for my oven. Turnt out to be a faulty selector unit which was causing an overload to the RCD breaker. He replaced the selector unit and RCD breaker for me. Very polite gentleman and was very quick to come sort my issues out. He has also provided me 2 year warranty for peace of mind.
